(submitted by Gerry & Tammy Westmoreland)

Sally Dear Greer, 81, passed away April 19, 2014 at Pine Crest Guest Home in Hazlehurst after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2014 from 12pm-2pm at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Crystal Springs. Services will be 2pm Monday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Simpson County.

Mrs. Greer was born on October 14, 1932 in Simpson County and lived most of her married life in Crystal Springs with her husband and 4 children. She was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Holland and Mamie Dear; husband, James V. "Sam" Greer; son, James Evin Greer; sisters, Gettis Paul and Mary Lou Arender; daughter-in-law, Vickie Greer.

Survivors include: sons, Anthony Greer (Rita) of Crystal Springs and Allen Greer (Cindy) of Crystal Springs; daughter, Trudy Blalock (Devon) of Crystal Springs; sisters, Wilma Bridges, Mae Ellis Vance, Lottie Barrett, Grace Shivers, Anita Smiley and Barbara Mullins; grandchildren, Dr. Samuel Evin Greer (Tonya) of Chattanooga, TN, Joey Greer (Lindsay) of Brandon, Angel Greer of Hattiesburg, Jake Greer (Rebecca) of Brandon, Brandon Greer of Flowood, Jennifer Money (Randy) of Forest, Jessica Jones of Forest, Tiffany Hill (B.J.) of Jackson and Mallory Blalock of Florence; 11 great grandchildren.

Sally married her beloved husband, Sam, the love of her life, on Christmas day in 1948 and they remained best friends for their 58 years of marriage. She was a shining example of what a loving wife, mother and grandmother should be.

Sally worked at the Crystal Springs Methodist Church Day Care for several years and later at Mr. T's Apparel. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family in her home and anyone who was lucky enough to have tasted her fresh corn, homemade rolls, hush puppies, cole slaw and wonderful cornbread was in for a treat.

Sally, also known as "Short," was a beautiful, Godly, southern lady with many talents including her lovely singing voice, her extraordinary sewing skills and, of course, her wonderful home cooked meals and desserts. Nothing made her happier than having all her family at home sitting around together playing guitars and singing their favorite hymns and songs. Sally loved her family dearly as they did her and she will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to the National Alzheimer's Association or to the National Diabetes Association.
