Phil Garrett Dies, Sunday Rites Set
Phil Garrett, 76, died Friday morning at a local hospital after an extended illness.
He was a prominent resident of Pearl community in Simpson County where he was a large land-holder and cattleman.
He was born and reared in Simpson County, the son of the late Frank Garrett and Vera Hooper Garrett. He was a member of Poplar Springs Methodist church.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cora Shack Garrett; one daughter, Mrs. W. C. Burnham, Jackson; one step-son, Harvey Hilton; Harrisville; one brother, George Garrett, Harrisville; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Brock, Harrisville; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the family residence with the Rev. Oscar Byrd officiating. Remains will be at Baldwin funeral home until 4 p. m. Saturday and will then be moved to the family residence. Interment will be in Antioch cemetery with Baldwin Brothers funeral home, Crystal Springs, in charge.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Mullens, Wilkie Mullens, Clifton Lucas, Roy Stepp, Elton Steen, J. B. Lewis.
