Man Given 12 Years For Manslaughter
LAUREL, Miss. (AP) W. V. Andrews, 37, of Laurel, was sentenced Friday to 12 years in the state penitentiary for culpable manslaughter in the death of his baby stepdaughter.
Andrews was convicted Wednesday of the Jan. 27 death of 14 month-old Teresa Kay Walker. Authorities ruled she died from a blow which fractured three ribs and tore her liver.
Judge Lunsford Casey, asked for leniency, said he had considered the fact that Andrews had no previous criminal record, but he also considered the man's conduct.
Andrews' attorneys said he would move for a new trial and appeal to the State Supreme Court.
