Mr. Greer was a native of Simpson County, having lived in Crystal Springs since 1969. He was a member of Henderson Road Baptist Church in Byram.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Katie Greer, his brothers, Howard and Odell Greer, sister, Shirley Bishop and his son Evin Greer.
Mr. Greer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally Greer, two sons, Anthony (Rita) Greer and Allen (Cindy) Greer, one daughter, Trudy (Devon) Blalock all of Crystal Springs; grandchildren, Rev. Sam (Tonya) Greer, Joey Greer, Angel Greer, Jake Greer, Brandon Greer, Jennifer (Randy) Money, Jessica (Alan) Jones, Tiffany (David) Lawrence, and Mallory Blalock; great-grandchildren, Korey Jones, Lyndi Money and Maddison Lawrence.
Better known as "Sam" or "Papaw", he was a devoted husband to his wife, Sally, for 56 years. There was not a more loving father and grandfather than he. He enjoyed family gatherings and cooking fried fish was his specialty.
He loved to work in his garden, growing some of the best tomatoes and watermelons in Copiah County. Another fond hobby of his was woodworking. He could often be seen at his grandchildren's sporting events, supporting them in everything they did.
One of his greatest attributions to his community was his faithful service to M P & L for 40 years. His hard hat can be found at the top of a light pole in downtown Crystal Springs, a tribute to him by his co-workers when he retired. Mr. Greer was a member of Crystal Springs Masonic Lodge.
Memorials can be made to Henderson Road Baptist Church in Byram.
