Hughes, Frances Leona Vaughn ~ Obituary

Mrs. John Hughes Buried Sunday-

Mrs. Frances Leona Vaughn Hughes, aged 75, died at her home in the Hopewell community last Friday, July 13, at 1:30 P.M. She had been ill for several years, suffering with Cancer, which caused her death.  Mrs. Hughes was born in Calhoun County August 5, 1875. She married Mr. John F. Hughes in June 1895. They reared a large family of children in the community where she died. She was a long-time member of Hopewell Baptist Church and also a member of the Woodman Circle. During her long illness she bore her pain with Christian patience and fortitude. She called on her Lord oftern and spent much time in prayer, assuring those about her that she was not afraid to die because she was sure of a heavenly home, and trusting that her children all have the same hopes.

 Funeral services were held at Harbour cemetery Sunday, July 15, at 3:00 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. J.L. Reese, Rev. Tutor of water Valley and Rev. A.H. Childress, Ellard. She was buried in Harbour cemetery with garner Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband, John F. Hughes; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Lee Walters, Grenada; Mrs. Maud Walters, Coffeeville, and Mrs. Wilma Vaughn, Calhoun City; one step daughter, Mrs. Hattie Wooten, Big Creek; three sons, Frank Hughes, Water Valley; George Hughes, Coffeeville; Claud Hughes, Coffeeville; and one step son, Walter Hughes, Coffeeville. She also leaves 32 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
