CANANT/CONANT/CONNANT/CANNET. Our CANANT family (sometimes spelled CONANT or other variations) migrated from Laurens Co, SC through AL and KY into Mississippi. My husband's great-great grandfather, Chesley CANANT(b ca 1790 in Laurens Co, SC), died abt 1846, in MS, but we do not know what town. We recently found additional CSA records on Chesley's son, William CANANT (b 2-17-1843, MS), showing that he enlisted in Arkadelphia, AL. Looking at the map, this shows a direct route to either MONROE Co, MS or ITAWAMBA Co, MS. William was born in MS, apparently in the same place that his father died. Was this in MONROE Co? Does anyone have records of a CANANT or CONANT family in their records? Chesley CANANT married 3 times and we have children from all three marriages. I have much to share, and will do so gratefully.
