Seeking information on BENJAMIN GRIFFIN and JAMES GRIFFIN who were in Monroe County approx. 1840-1845. James married Rachel German, but they divorced shortly afterward. Benjamin obtained a land patent in Itawamba Co. MS in 1844, and the land patent was made out to "Benjamin Jefferson Griffin of Monroe County, Mississippi." I do not know if James and Benjamin were related, but would like to correspond with anyone with information on the Griffin or German family in Monroe Co., later Chickasaw Co., and finally Itawamba Co. Mississippi.

I am looking for any information Cornelius Gholston or Gholston. he married Elsie or Alcy Whitfield in 1879 in monroe county. they bought were born in the year 1850. they had a total of nine children that was listed in the 1900 census as well as three grandchildren and a boarder. Between the 1900- 1910 his first wife passed away. then he married Fannie Whitfield in 1906. they were listed with 3 of his nine children from his first wife. I believe that they had some children at least one. I am the gggranddaughter of Cornelius and the ggranddaughter of his son Harvey. I don't know when or where he died. As well as the second wife. I am looking for information on the Cody family in Amory, Monroe County, Mississippi. It is my understanding that a Cody cabin is now a museum in Amory, and that possibly the last occupant of the cabin was Miles Franklin Cody. He was the brother of my direct ancestor, Elizabeth Cody, who married James Henry Wright from North Carolina. I have also been told that a book exists entitled "A History of Our Irish American Cody Family" by William Howard Wright, Jr. Does anyone have a copy of this book or any information about the Cody family? Looking for my William Stewart born 1769-1774, Abbeville Co., SC, married Nancy Ann Burt abt 1809 in old 96 dist. SC, moved with family and mother & her new husband, Mr. Simon Jenkins Sr. to Monroe Co,. MS abt 1820-30. Descendants were in Monroe, Pontotoc, Calhoun and Lee counties. Some went to Texas. Mostly interested in the parents of William Stewart and Nancy Burt. I believe Williams middle name was John or Anderson. Nancys father is John Burt, I believe, but need proof. My line is through William and Nancys son, William Stewart Jr. born 1819 SC. He married Salina Tedford.

I am seeking information on Homer Goodson and Leona(Lonie)Davis. They are listed in 1910 Monroe County Census at Splunge Precinct. I believe they are living in a Sawmill town. Homer is listed as 26, and Lonie as 19. They have been married for 2 years and have a 9 month old daughter named Ethel. Lonie and her parents were all born in AL according to the census. From personal knowledge I know that Homer and Lonie had another daughter named Mary that was born after May 3, 1910, and before September 1, 1912. Lonie died sometime between these two dates. Homer married again on September 1, 1912 to Virgie Lee Holley. 1920 found him in West Point, Clay County, with a blacksmith shop. He had Ethel with him, but Mary was not. He had two sons also by this time. That is the information that I have. THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW. WHEN DID LONIE DIE? WHERE IS SHE BURIED? WHO WERE HER PARENTS? WHO RAISED MARY? Follow up to my last DIXON/PRATER Query. I have discovered the parents of Louis Franklin Prather (Prater). They were Franklin Prater and Sirena Jane Holland. According to the census his parents were both born in AL. I am still looking for the parents of Willie Ann Dixon (Louis' wife). Louis and Willie Ann raised their children at Cotton Gin Port, MS and later moved to Jackson, MS. Both are buried in Hinds county, MS. CARTER Looking for information on George L. Carter. He was a public utilities worker-lineman-for the city of Amory. He was born in 1890 in Pontotoc County. His wife was Willie Ann Sykes. His children were: George, Alyce, Arthur, Herbert, Robert, Norris, Freddie, Ruth, Joyce, and Donell. They all attended Amory High school. Would like to hear from anyone researching the DAWSON, BALDWIN, WEBB lines. My gggrandparents were John Dawson (b. TN) and Mary Polly Webb (b.TN/AL?). They were married in Itawamba Co MS Dec. 22, 1837. My ggrandparents were Samuel John DAWSON (b. 1844, Monroe Co MS) married July 24, 1866 in Monroe Co to Nancy Jane BALDWIN (b Nov 1845, TN?). They had my grandfather, John Anderson DAWSON and another son, Henry Clay DAWSON, both born Monroe Co. I have some documentation, but would appreciate comparing notes and any leads that might re-focus my search.

Looking for information on a William E. White, DOB May 12, 1873 or 1867 in Aberdeen, MS. Son of a printer, according to obit in Wewoka Capital Democrat, Wewoka, Seminole County, Oklahoma, William was my grandfather and worked for the above mentioned newspaper. Wondering if there were newspapers or book publishers in the Aberdeen area during this time period. According to my father, we are related to Hugh Lawson White, governor of Mississippi in the 30's and 50's. William was also a Spanish American War veteran with the Co. E, 2nd Mississippi Infantry. Looking for information on WILLIAM WISE b 1809 Tn and wife ISABELLA, 1816 Tn. He is on both 1840 and 1850 Censuses. JANE b 1836, JOHN b 1837, ANNA b 1839, WILLIAM Jr b 1842, SARAH ELIZABETH b 1845, ISABELLE b 1849. I ahve been unable to find any of them on the 1860 Census. Samuel W. Holloway married Julia D. Wright in Aberdeen on December 31, 1851. She was daughter of Philip Wright. According to 1850 census Wright owned a stable in western division, Monroe County. They moved from Aberdeen to Obion County TN at end of Civil War. Believe Samuel W. died in Aberdeen. Seeking information on both families.

John Giddens, Condederate soldier from Red River Co., Tx, killed in Civil War and buried at Aberdeen (Monroe Co), Ms. John Giddens was a brother to my gg grandfather Wiley W. Giddens. John's wife Sarah J. Stiles Giddens is buried in Red River Co. Tx, where my ancestors settled in 1829. John Giddens was born May 18, 1833 in Red River Co., Tx and died July 11, 1862 in Aberdeen,Ms. John's father was Richard F. Giddens, born Dec 1798 in Wilkes Co. N.C. Can anyone help be to find out where John Giddens is buried and the events surrounding his death. Maybe the date of his death will be a clue for a battle etc? The above is about all the information I have on him. John had a brother James R. Giddens that was a soldier in the CSA and killed in battle. Sarah's father, John Stiles is in historic picture with Sam Houston and Santa Anna, after Santa Anna's capture. I am looking for relatives of Rola Faye Bryan. I know he was from Aberdeen and he had at least one brother Carrol David Bryan and maybe a sister. Rola Faye Bryan went by the name of "Pete" Bryan, he died in Texas about 1961 and his brother was in a nursing home in Texas and died later. They are both buried in Texas. I have limited information and was told there is a Bryan family book. Any information would be helpful.
