looking of information on thomas willingham family migrated from SC to monroe county in the early 1800's and then moved on to Fayettee count TN abt 1830. the information i do have about their stay in monore is as follows. West Point, Miss. PAMPHLET "1820 Census of the Buttahatchie Settlers and other Early Settlers in the Area of Monroe, Lowndes and Clay County, Miss" compiled by Ruth White Williams "The Primitive Baptist Church of New Hope was founded near Cotton Gin Port on May 8, 1819. The minister Thomas W. Willingham performed the marriage rites for seven (7) couples among the Buttahatchie settlers. They thought they were living in Alabama whereas they were actually living in Monroe County, Mississippi. Their marriages were legally void until validated by the Miss. Legislature. One performed was: William Sheppard & Delilah Willingham on October 8, 1820."

On Sept. 22nd, 2001, the descendants of A. B. Mayfield gather for the largest reunion even seen in Monroe Co. by this family. A. B. Mayfield settled at Cotton Gin Port with his wife and 9 children c. 1817. The highlight of the weekend was to dedicate a War of 1812 marker at his grave. The City of Amory was wonderful to us and our weekend was beautiful! The marker honoring A.B.'s service in that war remained in it's place of honor for about 2 weeks before some low life stole it!!! It is beyond me how anyone could steel anytime, muchless from the grave of a man being honored for fighting for the freedom of this nation in it's infancy ... a freedon that is being fought again today! It is my hope that someone reading this will know where such a marker might be sold or a third party might contact to keep an eye out for it!
