John Wilson SMITH married Celia BARDIN in 1840, residents of Pontotoc Co. They had 5 children-Nancy Elizabeth, William, James, Jacob, and Eliza. John W. was a post master at Old Town Creek during the CW. Jacob married Anna Springer of Itawamba Co. in CA abt 1872. All of this family went on to California in the 70's. However John Wilson had a brother William SMITH who stayed in MS. He married L.A. and had a daughter M. who married a Durham. This has a lot of abreviations for which I would like to find names. We would like to find descendants of William and L.A. SMITH and to find whether this family came from NC as the BARDINS did. This family also was connected to Davis, Cook, Bardin, Holmes, and Paynes. Can anyone help?

Eva Miller SMITH born Oct. 3, 1876 in Pontatoc, Miss. Died Sept. 7, 1966 in Dallas, Texas. Father: William James Smith, born April 15, 1848 and died March 21, 1927; Mother: Sarah Matilda Teeter born Dec. 8, 1845 and died Feb. 28, 1902. Eva Miller Smith's middle name was supposedly from the doctor who delivered her.

Her second husband was Nathanial Lafayette Tate md: 1906. Children: Lena and Hiram. I have a picture of Hiram "Hoss" and his half brothers and sisters standing before the Oak Forest Cemetery where Josie is buried. She is my Great Grandmother. I am looking for the parents of Silas HOWARD. Silas'military record says he was born in Smith Co, TN, enlisted in the civil war at Holly Springs, Marshall, MS on Aug. 25,1862 at the age of 20 to 25 (couldn't read very well), died in Knoxvill, TN the 5th of Nov. 1862, and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery on Bethal Ave. in that city. Marriage liscense says he married Eliza Ann BAKER on Aug. 23, 1858 in Tippah Co., MS. They had 2 children, John J. "Johnny" b. 1859 and Charles Robert "Charlie" b. March 20, 1862. Eliza died in 1863, probably Tippah Co., MS, and her parents, Charles Granderson BAKER and Nancy Caroling BOATNER BAKER, rasied the two boy. Can any one help with this HOWARD line, have a lot of info but can't connect with our line.

About 1835, Hiram MORRIS and his brother left Carroll Co., Tn and spent three years making Surveys in Benton, Pontotoc, Tippah and Union Counties in Mississippi. Hiram was born in Wilson Co, Tn in 1811. Hiram married Anna PEELER on 4/13/1936 in Mississippi.. Hiram and Anna had 3 children. The last one born in 1854. I don't know when Anna died. Hiram MORRIS married again, this time to Sarah Walden and their first child was born in 1865. Hiram settled in Fayette Co., Tn. I need info on Hiram's marriage to Anna PEELER and the name of Hiram's brother. Are there any records of Surveyor's? Hiram's Father was William H. MORRIS. Born near Statesville, NC about 1775 and moved to Wilson Co., Tn early 1800's.

I also have a copy of the Marraige license (from Pontotoc Co)of Ed New to Sussie Cunningham with A.J.Green as the witness.  Family lore is that my father changed his name from Andrew Samuel to Samuel Andrew to deprive my gf WWI life insurance benifits.    Both families (Greens and News) moved to Texas, the Dallas, Fort Worth area in the early 1900's.  My mother and I visited my aunt Mae Green ______,and many ,Green, New, and Pruitt cousins there in 1951.
