The following was copied by Nancy Newel McGuire Woolam from a newspaper clipping in her parents family bible in the 1930's. The family home and bible were later destroyed by fire. "James T. Griffin, son of Thomas Griffin, formerly a citizen of Pontotoc Co., died in Sunflower Co., Mississippi on October 10, 1881 of Malarial Fever in the 31st year of his age. Mr. Griffin leaves a wife and four small children besides a large circle of relatives and friends, who deeply mourn his loss. It can truly be said of James Griffin that none knew him but to love and respect him for his many deeds of kindness and friendship to those by whom he was surrounded. Yet while we, his bereaved wife and little ones, his aged parents and his fond brothers and sisters, so deeply mourn his loss, he has not left us without a hope that our loss of him

SHANNON, WHITE posted by Richard on Monday, March 17, 1997

Am seeking information on my ancestors and their relatives or descendants. My grandmother, whose birthname was Alma WHITE, was born on May 26, 1898, in Pontotoc, Mississippi. I believe Pontotoc is both a city and a county. Lee County is adjacent. Her parents were William Franklin WHITE and Caroline SHANNON. By 1920, her parents had died, and she was living in or near Columbia, SC. It is not known when she moved there, whether she went alone or with one or both parents, or when or where her parents died. She may have been part American Indian - at least that is what she told people. There was another family member named Ida May SHANNON, but I don't know how she was related. This is all I have, and getting any further on my own is hard because I'm in Russia. I would sincerely appreciate any help, advice, suggestions or lookups. Richard 75364.3627@compuserve.com
