The Story of Black Jack Bethel Church : Page 3Perhaps, one who had been out of fellowship with the church--the reason is not stated. Sept. 1847--During te conference a motion passed to adopt a hymn book and the pastor was authorized to buy a Bible for the Church. Letters of dismission were granted to George and Penelopy Wilson. October 1847--It was reported there had been a "fine" associational meeting at Ogden. The Robert Bull family was granted letters of dismission. Dec. 1847--There were only five members present, and because of rainy weather the preaching service scheduled for the next day was cancelled. Sarah Sprouls was given a letter of dismission. Being the last conference of the year, this brought to an end 1847. Jan. 1848--Brother Baggerly was asked to serve again as pastor. He accepted the call but requested a short leave, which was granted. March 1848--A motion was made to elect a deacon at the next meeting. Edmond Persell was elected clerk replacing D. C. Henderson. May 1848--J. C. Bull was chosen as deacon. Sister susannah Lee asked for and was granted a letter of dismission. June 1848--The church received for baptism one black woman named Phillis belonging to J. C. Bull. Also, J. M. sulivan's letter was received. He had been h?er the Watch Care of the church for several months. July 1848--It was brought to the attention of the conference that for some cause the Declaration of Faith and the Church Covenant had been left out of the Church Book. It was at this time that they were adopted and entered into the book.
