The Story of Black Jack Bethel Church : Page 13April 1886--Pastor Rowe preached - A collection of sixteen dollars was taken for mission purposes. The church extended the hand of fellowship to members received during 1885. The Lords Supper was then celebrated, and the church covenant read. May 1886-At this conference a protracted meeting was planned for August. The clerk H. C. Watlington was requested to correspond with A. A. Lomax for the purpose of securing his services in this meeting. The clerk was also asked to bring the church book to the next conference for the reason of revising the roll of membership. August - the fourth Sabbath 1886 -- The clerk reported that because of poor health Brother Lomax would be unable to assist in the protracted meeting. The clerk also stated one of the brethern who had not affiliated with the church for several years, was very sorry for his conduct, and wished to remain in the church. This seemed to be satisfactory, and he was restored to full fellowship with the body. August - the fifth Sabbath 1886 -- The protracted meeting was conducted by the pastor, A. V. Rowe. He was assisted one day by Brother T. J. Bailey of Goodman. Nine were received into the church - seven were baptised - one was brought back into fellowship - two by certificat and statement of other Baptist Churches - one reunited herself with the church. September 1886--Delegate H. J. Mitchell, A. G. Pepper, and H. C. Watlington were chosen to attend the Central Association to meet at Rocky Springs Church on Friday before the first Sunday in November. Edwin Ellison, Jessie Beard, Ada Pepper, and Susan Fugate were received for baptism. The first two listed were baptised the same day. October - Last Sunday 1886 -- A call was extended to Brother Rowe to preach for another year. He would answer at the next meeting. Ada Pepper, Susan Fugate, and A. U. Harris were baptised at the morning service. March 1887 - Second Sabbeth -- Alice Jones and Laura Jordan were granted letters of dismission, and T. J. Banks was received by letter. A protracted meeting was agreed upon for the second Sunday in August. August 1887--Brother A. V. Rowe, pastor, preached the week long. There were thirteen received for baptism - five by letter, and one restor. Twelve were baptised on Saturday. September 1887--The Central Associational was read and adopted. Ele was raised for the Convention Board. T. J. Bunks, Jessie Heard, and W. Watlington were chosen delegates. The Lords Supper was observed. October 1887--Brother Rowe agreed to be paster for another year with a salary of $300.00. Stephen Luse, and sisters Nannie, Fannie, and Sallie were received for baptism. Daughter of Colonel Luse, also, named Sallie was received for baptism. The baptism of all, was administered later the same day. November 1887--A committee of three men were appointed to buy a stove the church, but later they reported that they "deemed it inadvisable at present to make the purchase." This was the last reporting in the first minute book 1843 through November 1887. |
