My great, great, grandparents were Willim Alford and Luvicia Bailey Bailey left Luarens County, S.C. in the middle of the 1850s and came to Mississippi with some or all of their children. The children were Elizabeth Jane, James Franklin, Mary Francis, William Holcomb(Henry), John Clark, Sarah Catherine, and Ludlow. My great grandfather was William H. I know the history of John Clark, but I do not know what came of James Franklin Bailey, nor do I know where Ludlow Bailey is buried. Ludlow married Olivia Gammell and one James Franklin Thorzay Bevill. If You have information available please let me know.

I need to find parents of the following: W. N. Hargrove,b. 1841, d.Jun 1919, married to Annie, who I believe was A, R. Belk, (1st married to Joseph Byrd), the 2nd mar. occuring in 1886. Both Hargrove and "Annie" are buried in Oakgrove cemetery in Old Myrtle. Joel C. Swain, b. Nov 1840, d. Feb 1919 mar to A. R. Henry, b.abt 1840/45, d.1935/42. These should be buried in Union Co. also. I have civil war info on both ggrandfathers and good evidence they were both born in MS (from Tippah Co. 1850 cen). I want to verify that these are the families listed on the 1850 census as Willie and Nancy Hargroves, born in SC with one son, William,9, and John and Lucinda Swain with a son, Joel C. age 9. The Swain family migrated SC, GA, MS Can anyone suggest a direction for me to pursue this verification of identities?

In our search we felt it appropriate to include Union County to find information which might assist us. My Mother and I have been searching for any and all information regarding "Henry Middleton? Shurbet." H.M.S. resided in Prentiss and enlisted in the Confederacy in 1862 in 19th Infantry, CO-K. We have copies of documents that show this but we are unable to find much else. On his military papers his name was usually spelled "Sherbit", however, there are different spellings as I'm sure you know. He served at Richmond VA, at Chimbrazo Hospital as a Guard, and later in Columbus, and return to Prentiss at the close of the Civil War. H.M.S. was born 1814 in Spartanburg SC?, and died and is buried in Prentiss, MS in 1892. He was my G-G-G Grandfather. His Son, to whom I descend, was Zadus Brister Shurbet. One Genealogist suggests that he was a spy for the Confederacy, and suggests that that is the reason we are unable to find much information. If you can be of any assistance, Mom and I would sure appreciate your help. Your Heritage Friend, Larry

I am seeking information on my great-grandparents, John Riley Ledbetter and Callie Kitchens, and their ancestors. I believe Callie Kitchens was from the Booneville area and may have been born in Alabama. She was the daughter of Lewis D. Kitchens. Callie Kitchens married John Riley Ledbetter in 1891 and they lived in the Glenfield community (New Albany, MS). She died in the 1950's. John Riley Ledbetter was from the Corinth area. His parents were John Riley Ledbetter and Mary Farris. According to his 1933 obituary, he had four brothers (Jim of Booneville, MS; George of Paris, TX; Dock of Glenfield, MS; and Sam of Ripley, MS) and four sisters (Mrs. J.C. Young of Corinth, MS; Mrs. E.J. Keeton of Wheeler, MS; Mrs. Taylor Moore of Tupelo, MS; and Mrs. John McCarthy of Baldwin, MS). John Riley Ledbetter and Callie Kitchens had three sons (Clifton of Memphis, Bonnie of New Albany, and Emmett of Jackson, TN) and one daughter (Cecil of Amory, MS).
