Queries

NOTE:  Ancestry has announced that beginning March 2, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails.  Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. After March 2, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb for the foreseeable future.

Alternatives to the mailing list for posting queries are the following Facebook pages:  Lincoln & Lawrence Co., MS Genealogy & History Then & Now and Southwest Mississippi Genealogy Group.

Pike County queries may be posted from this page. The Rootsweb Message Board, a bulletin board system, will be used to post queries for this county. Two of the advantages of this new system are that your query will be posted almost immediately after you click on the Submit button and responses to queries will also appear on the query page.

I encourage everyone who can provide factual responses to posted queries to do so through the GenConnect Board. Please also include the source of your information in your reply. By doing this, you will not only help the original submitter of the query but other researchers who access the page next month or next year.

(Queries posted prior to November 29, 1998 are still available for viewing below.)

Please read and follow these rules when posting a query:

·         Provide enough detail in your query (particularly dates when known) so that readers will know about whom you are inquiring, but don't write a lengthy narrative.

·         In the interest of privacy, do not include information on living individuals in your query message.

·         Do not post GEDCOM files or descendancy charts as a query. (These are too lengthy and no one but you will understand the numbering system if you cut and paste an excerpt from a descendancy chart.)

·         Queries that are inappropriate (do not mention Pike County, Spam, commercial, etc.) will be deleted without notice to the submitter.

If your e-mail address changes...

·  RootsWeb Message Board: If your query is posted to this message board, you can update your address on your query by returning to the message board. [I cannot update addresses on this board.]
