Lone Oak Has Historic Background Progressive School - Fine
Leaders
The community has sixty-one families residing in its
district. Of these, thirty six are land owners, twenty-three rent
land for crops and three families are workers. The Community is
actively interested in the County Fair that will be held next week.
We intend to participate in a number of the events. We will exhibit
in the community Hall with a showing that will feature all the
activities of Reynolds community. Here you will see products of our
farms and homes, of the school, of the other things that are carried
on here. We will also participate in the School Day events – the
floats, parade, etc. You will find Reynolds right in the band wagon,
boosting the Fair and working for the advancement and progress of
the best county in Mississippi – old Calhoun.
Lone Oak community
organization was the first to co-operate with the County Agent’s
office and the engineering department of the A. & M College in
conducting a paint demonstration for the benefit of the people in
that section of the county. This demonstration consisted of two day
work by the experts and people of the community in painting their
two story school building on the outside and since that time the
community has gained interest to the extent that they have put over
a program of [interior] decoration and equipping their school
building with modern school desks and supplies. The teachers for
this section are: Lonnie Harville, principal; Misses Katie Maddox
and Mattie Edna Carter, assistants, who are all talented leaders and
will add much to the leadership of the Lone Oak Community.
There are six churches in reach of the people, with preaching twice each month at the school building. Has a live Sunday School and singing once each month.
The community now has two doctors, 3 teachers, one lawyer, one good store, 2 saw mills, and a lot of other conveniences.
The farms are most productive with lots of fine creek bottom and
rolling lands producing fine crops of cotton corn, lespedeza and all
crops grown in this section of the State. The farmers are a
progressive set of men, who employ power machinery and all modern
implements in the making, saving and marketing of their crops.
Nearly every farm in the community is a dairy farm, with cream
separators and milk cans. The skim milk is fed to fine hogs and
chickens which, when marketed, add to the wealth of the Community
and to the advancement of the section.
[Improved] roads, well
graded and conveniently laid-out for the public traverse the
district, and the people receive their mail at hands of rural free
delivery carriers.
The Lone Oak Community is known throughout the County, because of
its leadership and the spirit of their various organizations. They
have a Community club with the following as committees: Spikes
Lester, Pres., H. P. Bollinger, Vice-Pres., Miss Uva Spradling,
Secretary.
Program Committee – Mrs. T. Spradling, Spikes Lester,
Mrs. C. O. Womble

All of the above committees have been busy during this year. The program committee always plans entertaining programs for the meetings and recently this committee with the assistance of the school and other community leaders, rendered a community program that was enjoyed by all visitors and at the same time, netted the Club a large sum of money that will be used for the benefit of the Community.
Lone Oak will be the possessor of a new Methodist Church in a few days, as building material is now on the ground. [repeated paragraph]
Everyone remembers the fine showing that Lone Oak made last year
in the community exhibit and Float contest, and from all indications
this live community will make a strong showing for first places this
year. All of the farmers North of Schoona believe in the purposes of
the County Fair and will be visitors and supporters of the coming
County Fair program.
