HE CLUBBED HIS WIFE
But She Grabbed Up a Meat Knife and Jabbed Him in the Neck.
PORT GIBSON, (Miss.), March 5 - Dottie DIBSON killed her husband, Dave near Rocky Springs, this county, last night. The pair had been separated since Christmas and Dave tried to effect a reconciliation. Failing in this, he attacked her with a club, when she grabbed a meat knife and plunged it into his neck, killing him. She is in jail.

November 9, 1821 - Married on the 6th, by the Rev. Randal Gibson, The Rev. John Seaton to Miss Irvin, of Jefferson County.

November 16, 1821 - Died in the state of Mississippi, about the first, James McAllister, A. M., aged 55 years, late principal of Jefferson College, near Natchez.  Mr. McAllister was a native of Sterling, in Scotland, and attended the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.  He emigrated to America where he resided for some time in the cities of Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia - and from thence was occupied for several years as chief agent in the treasury of the Union.  Having left Washington City, he emigrated to Kentucky and was principal in the Salem Academy.  He has left a wife and two children.

November 30, 1821 - Married at Monmouth Place, near Natchez, on Thursday, the 15th, by John Baynton, Esqr., Mr. Thomas Nixon, of the House of Knox and Nixon, to Miss Margaret E. C. Hankinson, eldest daughter of John Hankinson, Esq.

Died at Warrenton, on the 19th, in the 35th year of his age, of hemorrhage from the stomach, Horace G. Wallace, Esquire, a native of New Hampshire.  He emigrated to this place in 1817, where he commenced the practice of law.

Died on Thursday morning, the 15th, at the Forest (Natchez), the family seat, Mrs. D. Dunbar, relict of the late Wm. Dunbar, Esq.  In the year 1810 death deprived her of her husband and she was left with a large family and the care of an extensive estate.

December 7, 1821 - Married at Mount Pleasant, Jefferson County, on Wednesday evening last, by the Rev. Mr. Cloud, Mr. Horace Carpenter, of Port Gibson, to Miss Martha Matilda Green, daughter of the late Henry Green.

April 30, 1836 - Died on the morn. Of the 27th, Horace Carpenter, at his residence in Port Gibson.  His 41st year had not quite rolled its course.  He was a native of Conn., but for the last 17 years of his life he had been a resident of Port Gibson.  His occupation professedly was merchant.

June 11, 1836 - Married on Thursday, the 9th, by N. M'Dougall, Esq., Mr. Augustus Best to Miss Lucinda Bently, dau. of Samuel Bently, Esq., of this co.

July 8, 1837 - Married on the 27th ult., at the residence of Mr. J. M. Sutton, by William H. D. Denney, Esq., Mr. Thomas Bruse to Miss Mary Van Norman - all of Port Gibson.

July 15, 1837 - Died in this town, on Monday eve. Last, Mr. Jos. W. Graves, for many years a resident of this town.  The deceased came to his death from drowning.  Buried with military honors by the Port Gibson Guards.

Died at his late residence, Willow Springs, Claiborne County, state of Miss., on the 6th, Rufus H. King, M. D. aged 28 years.  Dr. King was a native of the state of new York where his aged parents now reside.

July 29, 1837 - Died on Friday the 21st, at Cochrandale, in this county, Miss Catherine Hamilton, daughter of Mr. James s. Hamilton, and neice of the late R. S. Hamilton, of this county.

Died at his residence near this city, on the evening of the 26th ult., Col. Anthony Campbell, aged 73 years, a native of the county of Caven, Ireland.

December 2, 1837 - Departed this life, on the 25th ult., at 'Buck Ridge' in La., Mr. James S. Douglass, aged 40 years.  Mr. D. was a native of Claiborne Co.

Died on Friday, the 25th ult., Mrs. Cassandra E. Shields, widow of Benj. Shields, deceased, and daughter of Mr. N. Chunn, of this county, in the 24th year of her age.

Departed this life on Wednesday morning last, at the residence of his brother, Dr. J. P. Parker, A. W. P. Parker, Esq.  Mr. Parker had been engaged in the practice of Law.  He was interred with Masonic honors.

June 23, 1838 - Died at Carrollton, in Carroll county, on the 13th, Sidney M. Jeffers, formerly of this county, and brother of the editor of this paper.

We learn from a gentleman from Gallatin, Copiah County, Miss., that on Saturday last, a most willful murder was committed upon the person of col. James M. Hulet, formerly of Virginia, and late of this place, by a worthless scamp by the name of Richard Jones, a painter by trade. (Grand Gulf Adv.)

July 28, 1838 - Died on Monday evening last, Mr. James Dennis, aged fifty-four years and for some time past a resident of this county.

Died on Saturday last, the 21st, Mr. Edward Caughlin, a native of Ireland.  The deceased had been living with us only a few months.

Died on Monday, 23rd, Jeremiah, infant son of John and Franky Webb, aged 5 months and 5 days.

August 4, 1838 - Died on Thursday last, Mrs. Harrietta H. Purnell, consort of Wm. T. Purnell, Esq., of this town.  She left a disconsolate husband and two children to lament her untimely death.

August 25, 1838 - Died in this town this morning, Mr. James Bennefield.

September 8, 1838 - Died on the 2d, of bilious fever, Benjamin Franklin, youngest son of Miles and Mary Luster, aged 22 months.

Died on the 28th ult., of apoplexy, Mrs. Frances Murry, sister of Miles Luster, of this county.

October 4, 1838 - Died in this place, on Thursday night, the 3d, John James Foster.  The deceased was a native of Virginia and emigrated to the south a few years since.

October 12, 1838 - Died on the 7th, in this co., Mrs. Martha Miller, long a resident of co.

October 26, 1838 - Died in this town on Sunday, the 14th, A. Brown Willis.  Mr. w. was a stranger to this place and from an examination of his papers it appears that he had formerly been living in Talladega County, Alabama.

Died on Thursday, the 11th, at his residence in this county, Mr. James Goodail, in the 55th year of his age.

June 13, 1840 - Died in this town, on the 1st, James Harper, son of Dr. R. W. Harper, in the 17th year of his age.

July 18, 1840 - Married on the 10th of June, at Matagorda, Texas, Mr. Hendon, of Alabama, to Mrs. Emeline Townsley, of Port Gibson, Miss.

October 23, 1840 - Died at his residence in this place, on Friday evening, the 8th, of consumption, Jacob Greenwalt, in the 40th year of his age.  The deceased was a native of maryland.

October 30, 1840 - Died at this place, on 28th, Dr. t. T. Hogg, aged 26 yrs, 8 wks and 15 days.  He emigrated to this state from Tenn. In 1835.  His remains were followed to the grave and buried with military and Masonic honors by the 'Claiborne Guards' of which company he was a surgeon.

December 25, 1840 - Died in this place, on the 17th, of consumption, Andrew J. Bridewell, in the 28th year of his age, a native of Kentucky, but for the last 14 years a resident of this place.

February 6, 1841 - Died on the 27th January, John Vertner Douglass, aged 10 years, 4 months.  The deceased was the eldest son of the late J. S. douglass.

February 12, 1841 - Married on Thursday evening last, by the Rev. Z. Butler, Maxwell W. Bland, Esq., to Mrs. Emeline Douglass, both of this county.

Departed this life on Friday monrning, the 5th, Ater Davis Esq., clerk of the Circuit Court of Claiborne County.  Mr. Davis was a native of Maryland, but came to Mississippi at a very early age.

June 4, 1841 - Married on Thursday, the 3d, by Thomas D. Jeffers, Esq., Mr. theodore Noel to Mrs. Eugenia Dillard, both of this place.

August 6, 1841 - Died on Wednesday, the 4th, William Catlin, infant son of Horatio N. and Sarah A. Spencer, aged 3 months and 8 days.

August 20, 1841 - Died at the house of Col. Hankinson, in this county, on the 6th, the only daughter of David Stiles, aged 20 months.

Died on the 17th, D. Y. Thomas, of this place, Mr. thomas was a native of Connecticut.

September 10, 1841Died at his residence in Claiborne County, on the 27th of August, Duncan H. McIntyre.  Mr. McIntyre had been a resident of the county many years.  On the same day, shortly after the death of its father, an infant of Duncan McIntyre, Adeline McIntyre.

October 1, 1841 - Died in this city, on Saturday last, Mrs. Julia Frances Merrifield, aged 26 years, eldest daughter of Mr. Erastus Clark, of Hartford, Vermont, and wire of Mr. Alden S. Merrifield, of this city.

August 20, 1842 - Married in this town on Thursday evening, the 18th, by the Rev. Z. butler, Mr. Benj. W. Thomson, to Miss Caroline Robinson, daughter of William Robinson, of this county.

Died in this town, on Friday, the 12th, Bernard, infant son of Abraham and Elizabeth Cohen, aged 5 months and 2 days.

Died on Tues., the 16th, in this town, Hardy W. Pope, a native of North Carolina, but for the last 19 years a resident of this county.  His remains were followed to the grave by the Masonic Fraternity.

September 3, 1842 - Died in this down on the 16th ultimo, Maria Pamela, infant daughter of andrew and Jane Maria McClure, aged one year and one month.

September 24, 1842 - Died on the 19th, at his residence in this county, Mr. Samson Bridgers, aged 47 years.  His father emigrated from Carolina to this country when the subject of this notice was very young.  He was long a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

February 18, 1843 - Died in this county, on Thurs. last, the 9th, Mr. William E. Andrews, a native of Rowan Co., North Carolina, in the 31st year of his age.

April 29, 1843 - Died in this down, on Tuesday last, at the residence of the Rev Zebulon butler, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Esther Murdock.  Mrs. M. has resided in the county about 30 years.

July 8, 1843 - Mr. John a. Rowan, well known in this city, was killed some weeks since in a recounter with Dudley Woolfolk, in Woodford County, Kentucky.  Ill treatment of his wife, who was Woolfolk's sister, is said to have been the cause of the difficulty, which resulted in his untimely death.

July 22, 1843 - Died on Wednesday evening last, at his residence, of fever, Mr. John Heddrick, an old and well know citizen of this county.

August 19, 1843 - Died on Sunday, the 6th, at the residence of Capt. Joseph Regan, in this county, L. W. Polliet, a native of Salisbury, Maryland, but for several years past a citizen of Mississippi.

August 26, 1843 - Died in this town, on 14th, Zebulon, infant son of Rev. Zebulon Butler.

September 23, 1843 - Married in this town, on Thursday evening, the 21st, by the Rev. Zebulon Butler, Mr. John H. St. John to Mrs. Ellen Davis.

October 14, 1843 - Died in this city, on Saturday evening last, R. L. Brenham, Esq., late associate editor of the Daily Tropic, in the 29th year of his age.  Mr. Brenham was a native of Kentucky, emigrating to Miss. 6 years ago.

October 28, 1843 - Died at vicksburg, on the evening of the 17th, Mr. Hugh Watt, in the 34th year of his age.  Mr. Watt was a native of Scotland, but in early life emigrated to this country.

December 9, 1843 - Died on the 4th, at the residence of Dr. A. H. Peck, of this place, Miss Sarah Merrifield, daughter of Mr. P. Merryfield, of Windsor, Vermont, aged 17 years.

A man named Woodburn put an end to his existence on Saturday night last, at the house of a Dutch grocery keeper, named Emrick, by taking laudanum

April 16, 1845 - Married in this county, on the 10th, by the Rev. B. H. Williams, Mr. John McCaleb, of Adams county, to Miss Indiana, daughter of John Booth, Esq., of Claiborne.

On Monday afternoon last, John B. Hixon was shot dead, a few miles from this place, by his father-in-law, Lewis Lot.  Hixon, it seems, had maltreated his wife, who had sought refuge at her father's house.  Mr. L. immediately came to town, delivered himself up to the officers of justice, and was tried before his Honor Judge Burrus, on Wednesday, and acquitted.

December 3, 1845 - Married on Thursday evening, by the Rev. Mr. Forsythe, Dr. S. P. Shaifer to Miss Esther Patton, all of this county.

Married at Grand Gulf, on the 13th, by the Rev. Z. butler, Thomas J. Durant, Esq., of new Orleans, to miss Mary E. Harper, youngest daughter of Dr. Harper, of Port Gibson.

June 24, 1846 - Bill of Divorce - William Weatherly -vs- Martha E. Weatherly.

August 8, 1846 - An altercation took place on Tuesday evening between Daniel Kellen and Thomas Hoey, and both being excited from liquor, blows were interchanged; Killen took up a wooden picket and struck Hoey on the head, knocking him senseless.  He died yesterday morning.

September 5, 1846 - Died in this vicinity, on Thursday, the 30th ultimo, Mrs. Cornelia Virginia Putnam, consort of a. W. Putnam, Esq.

September 12, 1846 - Married in vicksburg, on Tuesday night, 1st, at Thatcher's Hotel, by N. G. Bryson, Esqr., Mr. William Regan, of Yazoo City, to Mrs. Mary Ann Butler, of Port Gibson, Miss.

It is reported in town that col. W. b. Minor shot and killed Col. Wilkinson, living on Paw Paw Island, and wounded his son, Edward Wilkinson, so severly that he is not expected to recover.

We learned from the Holly springs Guard that Bartley A. Cox was killed on the 19th ult., by the accidental discharge of a gun in his own hands.

October 3, 1846 - It is our painful duty to record the sudden death of Dr. Westcott, of Jackson, Miss.  He died in this place on the 23d ult., of hemorrhage of the lungs.

November 21, 1846 - It becomes our painful duty to chronical a bloodthirsty tragedy.  The parties concerned were John Catlin, the deceased, Abel Kelly, Abram Kelly, Jesse H. Martin and Wm. Clawson.  On Friday the two Kellys, Martin, Clawson and another young man, rode up to the brickyard where Catlin was making a kiln of bricks, and while he was engaged in giving some directions to the hands, Martin fired on him.  The shot struck Catlin in the neck severing an artery.  Catlin then caught up a rifle and shot Martin striking him on the left cheek.  The others then fled, but returned and Abel Kelly shot Catlin several times after he had fallen from weakness due to loss of blood.  Clawson has been arrested, Martin died on yesterday morning, the kellys have not been apprehended, the elder Mrs. Kelly is now under arrest for aiding and abetting the murderers.

February 9, 1843 - Married in this place, on Thursday evening, the 2d, by the Rev. Z. Butler, P. F. Hansborough to Martha L. Johnson, all of this place.

Departed this life on Saturday evening last, at the residence of Mr. Elias Phillips, near Paulding, his son-in-law, Hiram Adams, of epidemic disease which is at present prevailing in this county.  His wife then laboring under the same disease, followed her partner in death the next day leaving a tender off spring.  (Paulding Clarion)

June 22, 1843 - It becomes our painful duty to announce the death of Israel Loring, Esq., the patriarch of our town, who departed this life on Sunday, the 18th, in the 75th year of his age.  The deceased was a native of Sunbury, Mass., from whence he removed in the year 1789, to Marietta, Ohio, then a frontier post in the wilderness, where for some time he acted as Commissary in the Army under the command of Gen. Wayne.  In the year 1803 he removed to this county, then just formed, and erected the first frame dwelling in this town.  His remains were accompanied to the tomb by the Masonic Fraternity, of which he was an honored member.

June 29, 1843 - Died in this city, Saturday night, the 10th, Doctor James A. Maxwell, a native of Mississippi, and for the last three years a resident of this city, in the 33d year of his age.  Doctor Maxwell was a graduate of Louisville Medical College.  His remains were taken to his native state for interment.  (New Orleans Tropic)

July 27, 1843 - Departed this life, at the residence of his son-in-law, H. N. Spencer, Esq., Mr. Samuel Marshall, in the 79th year of his age.  He was a native of Pennsylvania and when only 13 years old he emigrated to Natchez, during Spanish times, and has resided in Mississippi 60 years.  During the latter years of his life he has been stricken with blindness, and afflicted with great dullness of hearing.

August 3, 1843 - Departed this life on the 27th ult., Robert Brown, son of the Rev. B. B. and M. M. Killikelly, aged 14 months and 15 days.

August 10, 1843 - Married on Thursday evening last, 3d, by T. D. Jeffers, Esq., Mr. Joseph Neal to Miss Rebecca J. Harman, all of this place.

August 24, 1843 - Died on Wed., the 16th, at Rocky Springs, Mr. James P. Scisson.

October 12, 1843 - Departed this life on the 24th ultimo, Mrs. Charlotte Anne Elizabeth, wife of Joseph H. Newman, of this county, in the 41st year of her age.

The paper published but recently, the obituary of Thomas Freeland, the second son of Thomas Freeland, Esq., of this county, since which time death has removed two lovely children from the bosom of his family.  His youngest son, Augustine, and Eugenia Bell, an adopted daughter, were the subjects of a fatal disease.

October 19, 1843 - Died Sunday morning, the 8th, of congestive fever, at the residence of Dr. W. B. Lindsay, in this place, Mr. Horace Boughton, aged 24 years.  Mr. Boughton was born and raised in Canfield, Ohio.

Died of yellow fever, at Dr. Stone's Hospital, in New Orleans, on Tuesday, 26th ult., George Dies, resident of this place.

January 18, 1844 - Died suddenly, in this place, on Monday morning, the 15th, of hemorrhage of the lungs, Mr. Robert May, late of Nelson County, Kentucky, aged about 23 years. (Grand Gulf)

May 2, 1844Died on Monday, the 29th of April, 1844, at his residence in Port Gibson, B. W. Morehead, M. D., in the 34th year of his age.  Dr. Morehead was a native of Kentucky and a graduate of the old Medical School at Philadelphia.  He removed to this state in 1836.  He left a wife and three small children.  His remains were interred in the cemetery of Port Gibson.

June 13, 1844 - Died in this place, on the 7th, Henry, infant son of the late Dr. B. W. and Mrs. Mary Ann Morehead.

August 22, 1844 - On yesterday, about 12 o'clock, Patterson Porter, overseer for Dr. Peck, stabbed John S. Waters, a carpenter, at the Prentiss House.  Waters died in about 10 minutes.  Porter is in custody.  (Vicksburg Whig)

August 29, 1844 - Died yesterday morning, Mrs. Aletheia Gordon, aged about 70 years.  She was one of the oldest residents of this place.

September 5, 1844 - Died in this place, on the 30th ult., Miss Christiana M. Muncaster.

September 12, 1844 - Died at Blue Lick Springs, Kentucky, on the 10th ult., of hemorrhage of the lungs, Alfred T. Barnes, Esq., of this county.  The deceased was a native of this county.

October 3, 1844 - Died at the residence of her brother, in Rodney, on Tuesday, the 24th ult., of pulmonary consumption, Miss Emeline J. Broughton, aged 32 years 10 months.  The deceased was a native of Kentucky.

October 10, 1844 - Died Tuesday evening, the 3d, Lucy B., infant daughter of Rev. Mr. James and Mrs. L. A. Maclennan, aged 1 year and 24 days.

October 17, 1844 - Died in this town, Tuesday last, Wm. G. Renaud, aged about 32.

October 24, 1844 - Died at the residence of David McCaleb, Esq., in this county, on the 14th, his wife, eldest daughter of Col. Farrar, an officer of the Revolution in the South Carolina line.  Mrs. McCaleb was born in 1778 and married in 1784 in the state of South Carolina, being at her demise in the 66th year of her age.

November 7, 1844 - Died in this place, on the 6th, Henry Devine, aged about 30 years.  The deceased was a native of the Kingdom of Ireland.

January 2, 1845 - Died at Oakland College, on the 25th, Mrs. Frances Merwin Black, consort of S. H. B. Black, Esq., aged 26 years.

January 23, 1845 - Died in this county, on Friday last, Mr. Josia Marler.

May 29, 1845 - Died near Port Gibson, on Sunday morning last, John W. Thompson, Esq., aged 62 years.  Mr. Thompson was one of our oldest citizens having emigrated to this county about the time of its organization, more than 40 years ago.

September 22, 1848 - Died on the 10th, at the residence of his father, in this co., Calvin States, only son of T. C. and Diana Trevilian, aged 5 years, 7 months and 19 days.

Died in this place, on Sunday, the 24th, Moses T. Wilson, formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Died near Waterproof, Tensas Parish, La., on the 15th, Mrs. Parmelia S., consort of Rev. Byron Benton, and daughter of the late John H. and Sarah C. Goff, formerly of Claiborne County, Miss.

Married on Thursday evening, Sept. 28th, by the Rev. Zebulon Butler, James W. Watson, Esq., to Miss Miriam Buck, all of this county.

October 13, 1848 - Died in this town, on Sunday evening, the 8th, Thomas Emily, dau. of Polly Ann and Allen Davis, aged 3 years, 6 months and 26 days.

November 10, 1848 - Died in this town, on Friday last, Benjamin Franklin, infant son of Mr. & Mrs. A. J. McGill.

February 16, 1849 - Married in this town, on Wed. evening last, by the Rev. Mr. Boyd, Howell Hinds, Esq., of Jefferson County, to Mrs. Mary Ann Lape.

February 23, 1849 - Married on Thursday morning, the 15th, by the Rev. Z. Butler, Mr. Abram A. Green to Miss Caroline Maury, all of this place.

Died on Friday morning, the 16th, Louise B., daughter of J. B. and Catharine Coleman, aged 8 weeks.

March 23, 1849 - Died in Hinds County, Miss., Mrs. Frances H. Lamon, in the 24th year of her age.  She was the daughter of the late Ezra Marble, of this co.

Our venerable fellow citizen, Dr. Samuel Dorsey, was eighty-one years old on the 3d of March, and in three days afterwards his spirit returned to God.  He was a native of Maryland.

April 13, 1849 - Died at the residence of Mr. James Derrah, in this place, yesterday afternoon, Mr. A. H. Horner.

April 20, 1849 - Died in Grand Gulf, on the 12th, Mr. Josiah Rundell, in the 45th year of his age.  The deceased was born in Claiborne County, near Port Gibson, on the 7th day of August, 1804.

May 11, 1849 - Married on Wednesday evening last, the 9th, by the Rev. Thos. B. Adams, Mr. M. D. Tilden to Mrs. Gabriella J. West.

Married on the same evening, by the Rev. F. W. Byrd, Mr. Daniel J. Dohan to Mrs. Rebecca Rembert.

Died on Thursday, 12th, of cholera, on board the steamboat Oella No. 2, lying at this place, Mr. G. N. Campbell, of Jefferson County, Miss. (Fort Smith Herald)

May 18, 1849 - Married at the Episcopal Church in this place, on Sunday last, Dr. E. H. Stiles, of Claiborne County, Miss., to Miss Lucretia M. Ward, of this place (Canton Creole)

Died at the residence of Mr. E. D. Newell, in La., on Friday, the 14th, A. G. Dorsey, late of this county.  His remains were interred in the family burial place near Port Gibson.

Died on Mon. last, of cholera, at Camp on Mazzard Prairie, near this place, Mr. G. W. Lowery, of Franklin Co., Miss.  (Fort Smith Herald)

June 1, 1849 - Albert Gallatin Dorsey, N. D., deceased at the residence of his brother-in-law, Edward D. Newell, Esq., on the 11th.  The deceased received a diploma from the Medical School of Louisville.

June 29, 1849 - Died at the residence of her father, James Crane, Esq., on the 25th, Mrs. Catharine Bertron, wife of Rev. S. R. Bertron.

July 13, 1849 - Died at her residence in this county, on the 21st ult., Mrs. Gradick aged 82 years.  This most aged resident of our county was a native of South Carolina and had been in this place nearly 40 years.  She has left three daughters.  

Died on Monday morning last, in this village, Harriet Lavinia, wife of John K. Marble, in the 17th year of her age.

July 20, 1849 - Died on the 12th, at the residence of Mrs. Sarah L. Barnes, in this co., Julian, the eldest child of Mr. B. G. and Mrs. Mildred Humphreys.

August 24, 1849 - Died at East Pascagoula, on the 2d, A. Burent, Esq., last of this co.

Died at Louisville, Ky., on the 10th, Mr. Gilkly, late of this town.

August 31, 1849 - Died in this town, the 4th August, at the residence of his son, Mr. D. J. Kiger, Col. Geo. W. Kiger, of Winchester, Frederick County, Va., in the 67th year of his age.

September 28, 1849 - Died on Monday, 24th, at his father's residence in this county, William Clark, son of Geo., S. Clark, aged 21 years and 6 months.

November 2, 1849 - Departed this life, October 18, 1849, in the 22d year of her age, at the residence of her husband, Mary Eliza Swearingen, consort of Wm. Harris McAlpine.

December 28, 1849 - Died at Rocky Springs, on the 13th, Mrs. Louisa Fisher, wife of Geo. W. Fisher, and daughter of Mr. Wm. Clark, aged 23 years.

January 24, 1850 - Mrs. Emily Jane Moreland is no more.  She was the dau. of Dr. John and Eliza Laybourne, a native of Claiborne Co., Miss.  Born 2 miles from Port Gibson (on the same day she died) Jan. 27th, 1809. She was married to Josiah Willis, January 7, 1828 and lived with him till July 16, 1832 when Providence deprived her of her husband and the father of her 3 children.  In August 1838 she was married to L. F. Moreland.

February 2, 1850 - James Chamberlain, President and oldest professor of Oakland College, departed this life, of Typhoid fever, on the 2d of January, 1850, at residence of his brother, Washington Chamberlain, in Charleston, Va.

February 15, 1850 - Died on Typhoid fever, at Charleston, Kenewa Valley, Va., on the 2d of January, 1850, Dr. James Chamberlain, for many years a citizen of Port Gibson, but recently of Thompkin's Bend, La.  Dr. Chamberlain was a native of Adams County, Pa.  He graduated at Jefferson College in western Pennsylvania, in 1826.

February 22, 1850 - Died in this place, on Tuesday night last, very suddenly, Wm. M. Randolph, aged about 40 years.

March 8, 1850 - Died in this county, on Monday last, Mr. David McCaleb, an old and highly esteemed citizen.

Died at the residence of Timothy Shannahan, in this place, on Wednesday, the 6th, Mr. John T. Brown.

May 31, 1850 - Departed this life on the 15th March last, at his late residence in this county, Mr. James Moor, at the age of 54 years.  Mr. Moor had resided in this co. 40 years, and had been a member of the Methodist Church.

Died on the 8th, William A. Hankinson, aged 19 years and 30 days.  His death was caused by the accidental firing of a pistol.

September 27, 1850 - Died in New Orleans, on Saturday, the 21st, of dropsy, Col. William Bridgers, of this county.  He was born in North Carolina, February 3, 1790, and has resided in this county over 40 years.  His remains were brought to Grand Gulf, where they were interred on Wed., the 25th.

October 18, 1850 - Died in Port Gibson, on Monday, the 14th, George N., infant son of Mr. & Mrs. N. P. Moody.

October 25, 1850 -Died in Port Gibson, on the 14th, John Adison Carrick, a native of Sparta, White County, Tennessee, aged 16, years.

Died in Pt. Gibson, Tues., 23d, infant dau. of Mr. & Mrs. J. Cameron.

Died near Lake Providence, La., on the 9th, Mr. George P. Sisson, formerly a resident of this county.
