Subject: James Monroe Tribble (ca 1843-aft 1880) Resided in Yalobusha & Tallahatchie Counties. He married Lavinia B Ross 26 Dec 1866 in Tallahatchie County. 1880 Soundex, Roll T614 shows Tallahatchie County, Beat 3, Vol 20, ED (ink spot) 108?, Sheet 53, Line 33 Tribble, J. B. white 37 MS ", Provina wife 32 MS ", Mary E. dau 13 MS ", Eliza J. dau 10 MS ", Lizzie A. dau 8 MS ", Rebecca D. dau 6 MS ", Manerva son 4 MS ", Wm Stanley son 1 MS Ross, Susan A. sil 25 MS ", Jas. D. NR 2 MS OK, here's the question: Except for a few inconsistencies (J. B. rather than J. M., Provina vs. Lavinia) this appears to be James Monroe Tribble & Lavinia Ross. Or have I gotten it wrong? (I have NOT pulled the 1880 census yet to see if the transcriber got it wrong copying it to the Soundex, or if the census reflects the same data.) Anyone got any additional info on Lavinia's sister? Is Jas. D. her son? And, is Manerva really a son, or is this a dau?

Sephaniah Franklin Dyer appears in Tallahatchie county censuses of 1841, 1850 (occupation "civil officer") and 1860 (occupation "merchant"), listed as born in Tennessee. Wife Mary Jane is shown as born in Alabama. Daughter Nancy J. G. was 8 years old in 1860 census. He patented land in Tallahatchie county in 1855, 1859, and 1860. In 1848, a Tallahatchie court named S. F. Dyer, C. M. Neely, and F. C. Priddy to appraise the estate of one William Henderson, deceased in that year. In 1863, he was functioning as a Justice of the Peace in Tallahatchie County; as he is recorded as performing a marriage near Eolia? in August of that year. Any information on origins of S. F. Dyer or his wife Mary Jane would be most appreciated. Daughter Nancy Jane, also known as Nannie, married John Wylie Littlejohn my great-grandfather, who settled in Maury Co., TN.
