Thomas J. Lynch, Jr., 84, a retired electrician, died Friday, November 21, 2008, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Visitation is today from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Monday, November 24, 2008, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland with burial to follow in the Antioch Baptist Cemetery in Simpson County, MS.
Mr. Lynch was a native and life long resident of the Florence area. He was born on October 15, 1924 to the late Thomas J. Lynch, Sr. and Ida Lee Gates Lynch. He was a graduate of Harrisville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Northern France.
He was a very devoted Christian man, and was always at church with his family when the church doors were open. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Florence. He was a member of the Harrisville Lodge #336.
His goal and desire in life when he married was to serve his wife and future family very patriotic and he loved his country. He made sure flags were placed on Veterans graves at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery on Veterans Day. He and his wife, Mrs. Ann, established the County Line Food Pantry in 1998 at their home in Florence, MS.
He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club with Entergy, Formerly MP&L.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Annie M. Lynch of Florence; two daughters, Shirley Lynch Williams of Florence and Tommie Jean Sullivan and her husband, Barry of Florence; three grandchildren, Christie Harrison and her husband, Jason, Michael Williams and his wife, Elizabeth, and Anna Sullivan all of Florence; three great grandchildren, Leslee Higgs, Lauren Higgs and Wyatt Williams of Florence.
