Amos & Mary came to Ark. with the Roberts, Watkins and Andrews families. Robert's family members list Mary's father as GEORGE WASHINGTON MADDOX. 1870 Conway County Arkansa census lists a SARAH "MATTOX" born in 1840, living in the household of Amos Roberts, Sr. LUCINDA MADDOX, wife of William Watkins, born in Sc, lived in Tuscaloosa Co. ROGERS/RODGERS,
ALLISON, DAVIS
ROGERS/RODGERS, ALLISON, DAVIS. Members of the ROGERS/RODGERS (Isaac, Hugh, Larkin and James D.), ALLISON(John), and DAVIS(Nathaniel, Samuel, Robert) families appeared in the 1809 Census of Madison County, Alabama. There are connections between these families that continue on as members migrate to Limestone County, Alabama and to Monroe County, Mississippi. The birthplaces listed of various children suggest that all three families spent significant time in Tennessee prior to moving into Madison County, Alabama. I think it is reasonable speculation that the families knew of each other in Tennessee prior to the move to Alabama. Does anyone have information about the origins of the families. Two of my direct ancestors, John Allison Rogers and his father, Robert M. Rogers, were in Monroe County. I would be excited to compare notes. SPENCE,
PERKINS, MCNEIL, STEAGALL
I seek information on my GGG grandfather, Robert Richard SPENCE and his wife Mariah MCNEIl are supposed to have immigrated from Abbeville, SC to Cotton Gin, MS in about 1838 with most of their children. I found Cotton Gin Port on the extinct towns list for Monroe Co and I'm wondering if this could be the same place. Two of their children stayed in SC, including my GG grandmother. The others went to Mississippi and then on to Texas. I believe three of the SPENCE children married into a PERKINS family and some may have stayed in Mississippi. Their son Robert Hayne SPENCE fought in the civil War from Mississippi and died in 1864. Other children were Mariah Ann SPENCE who married Dr. Perry PERKINS and I believe settled in Texas. Also Mary Lou SPENCE who married Len PERKINS, John McNeil SPENCE who married Martha PERKINS, and Charles Harrison SPENCE who married Elvira STEAGALL. Sometime after that part of the family settled in Hempstead, TX where Robert Richard SPENCE died in 1850 and his wife died in 1860. As far as the Mississippi information, does any of this sound familiar? I would also welcome any suggestions you may have. Thank you. Betsy Tyson Austin, TX
