War Service 1861 raised the Sunflower Guards in 21st Mississippi. Elected as Capt. Promoted to Col.: Seven Days, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg. August 1863: Promoted to Brig. Gen.: Chickamauga, Knoxville, in Kershaw's division in the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Shenandoah Valley campaign, wounded at Berryville, commanded a military district in Mississippi.
