The marriage of George W. Cumberland and Annie Allday is recorded at the Circuit Clerk’s Office at the Neshoba County Courthouse, Philadelphia, Mississippi, in Book "B," Page 89. Microfiche is also available at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Public Library – Archives. Allday is often spelled as Alday in some records.

George W. Cumberland (age 20) married Annie Allday (age 20) on September 14, 1890.
Because a fire in December 1887 destroyed county records, information prior to this date is not available in the Circuit Clerk’s Office, Neshoba County, Philadelphia, Mississippi.
George W. Cumberland’s date of birth on his tombstone is December 24, 1869; there Cumberland is misspelled as Cumberlin. His date of birth in Nora Martin Cumberland’s bible, in her own handwriting, is December 25, 1866. His date of birth according to the US Census of 1900 is also 1866. The US Census record of 1870 shows George W. as being one year old, a fact that raises a question about George’s actual date of birth. Apparently, George had a twin sister named Laura, who died as a child.

George’s father, a farmer, was James Cumberland, born in Alabama circa 1826. James’ father was born in Alabama; his mother in South Carolina. George’s mother, a housewife, was Delila E. Cumberland, born either in Mississippi or in Alabama circa 1845. Delila’s father was born in South Carolina; her mother in Alabama.

James Cumberland and Delila were married circa 1866.
George W. Cumberland’s epitaph reads: "Thou art gone from a world of care, the bliss of heaven to share."

Annie Allday Cumberland’s epitaph reads: "Mother". Annie’s death certificate states that her birthday was February 1874 and that her age at death was 61. Annie’s father, a farmer, was John Allday, born in Georgia circa 1840. Both of his parents were born in France. According to the 1880 US Census, he was then 44 years old. In the 1870 Census, he lists his age as 30. Annie’s mother, a housewife, was Mary S. Nicholson Allday, born in Alabama circa 1848. Mary is reported to have lived to the age of 101. The birthplace of Mary’s parents is unknown. In the 1880 Census, Mary’s age is shown as 35 years; in the 1870 Census, her age is 22. John Allday married Mary S. Nicholson circa 1866.

Annie Allday Cumberland was 37 years old at the time of her husband’s death in 1907.
The following information comes from The G.M. Nicholson Family Tree, completed in July 1974, by Winnie Lou Nicholson: Henry Nicholson was born in Scotland circa 1800. He came to America and married a Miss Wiggins of Georgia. One of their children was Asberry Marion Nicholson (born November 12, 1842; died June 11, 1909). Asberry and his wife, Elizabeth, had a daughter named Mary Nicholson. This Mary Nicholson married John Allday. John and Mary had a child named Annie, who is John Elmer Cumberland’s mother.

Asberry Marion Nicholson and M. Elizabeth Nicholson are buried in the Linwood Baptist Church cemetery:
