REGIMENTAL RETURN

June 1862, Remarks This return is the first ever made from this regiment and is made at a time when
the regiment is unusually reduced by absence and sickness, the regiment is composed of men mostly
citizens of this vicinity and the sick when ordered to the rear by the medic at direction immediately before
the evacuation of Corinth, many went to their homes and are unable to return to the regiment, the enemy
having extended their lines below them, the march from Corinth to Baldwyn weakened the regiment very
materially, many taken sick from fatigue and exertion are not yet able for duty this is accounted for the
regiment being recently organized of new recruits not used to the hardships of soldier life, the march from
Baldwyn to this place was performed with near ease and that from Corinth to Baldwyn, the men were rested
and marched more leisurely and under better dicipline than on the former march, the regiment has never
been in action except as skirmishers while on outpost duty near Corinth, May 27, 1862, two men were
wounded and captured, one from Company D and one from Company C. One is since learned, has died of
his wounds, both were privates. Since reaching this place we have been in camp of instruction and the
regiment has improved very sensible both in drill and disipline and we hope by our next return to be able to
report a deciding improvement in health which at this time is very bad indeed.
