rank at the time he surrendered himself to the Federal Troops,
Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 17, 1864, where he remained a few days and
then forwarded to this prison, says that at the commencement of
the war and for the first two years of his service he was a strong
Southern Man in sentiment and concerned in all their doings, but
that now he has changed his opinion and thinks that the
Confederates wrong in trying to overthrow the United States Govt.,
and his object in wishing to take the amnesty oath is to again
become a loyal citizen of the U.S. Govt., does not want to go South
under any consideration.
