Name Inquiry: Eliza Lowry 41 years of age, husband not on census
Source: 1850 Census, Carroll County, MS
Children: 10 on census sheet. last born in 1848 (my great grandfather)

My name is Jo Ann Lowry, the great grandaughter of I.H. Lowry born to Eliza and H. Lowry in 1848, and am trying to do research on this line of Carroll County Lowrys.

Today I drove up from Gulfport and found Emory Road. I visited the Cade Cemetery and Methodist Church and the Baptist Church (1835) and Cemetery, all right off Emory Road. Took some digital photographs of the cemeteries and the two churches, would be glad to share them by e-mail if they would ever be of any interest to you.

Since I am a gen. novice, and live so far away, I hope you can help me put the things I need to do in some better kind of order. So, do you think it would be best for me to start by visiting the Carroll County Courthouse for land records and the like, and cemetery records, or would it be better to go to the Archives in Jackson. Also, Emory is now in Holmes County and that confuses me about present day county record locations.

Thanks for your time, and I did like Carroll County very much today, except for the Kudzu, by which I was horrified, couldn't see the beautiful landscapes that my early Lowrys might have lived and farmed on.
