The success of a telephone system which is satisfactory to its subscribers depends largely on its management.. For this reason the success and good service of the Fayette Exchange is due to Mr. T. P. Blackwell.

He as born December 14. 1880, at Forest, Miss., and attended the public schools of Vicksburg. He began the telephone business as “trouble man” with the Cumberland Telephone and Telegraph Company at Brookhaven in 1900, and has been employed by this corporation since. For a time he was manager of the Exchange at Forest, Miss., leaving there to accept a position in the Nashville Telephone shops.

Mr. Blackwell came to Fayette April 15, 1902, to take charge or the local exchange as manager. He is considered one of the best in the State and stands high with his company and in his community.

He married Miss Ada Hudson of Caseyville, Lincoln County, February 9, 1902.




Obituary from January 9, 1964

Graveside services were held Saturday morning, January 6 from Philadelphia Baptist Cemetery near Caseyville for Turner P. Blackwell, 83, who died January 2 at his home in Lake Charles, La., after a long illness

Services were held in Lake Charles Friday and the remains were shipped via train to Brookhaven Funeral Home arriving at midnight Friday and taken to the cemetery for burial.

Mr. Blackwell was a brother-in-law of W.B. Hudson of Brookhaven and Mrs. Bess H. Magee of Caseyville.

He was a native of Forrest, Miss., had lived in Lake Charles the past 32 years and was a Presbyterian.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Turner P. Blackwell and daughter, Mrs. Mitchel Bono, both of Lake Charles, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
