Augusta Dorsey Ballard died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Natchez Regional Hospital in Natchez. She was 67.
Mrs. Ballard was a graduate of Liddell High School, Okalona Junior College and Mississippi Valley State College. She was employed as a clerk for the city of Fayette for 37 years. She was a member of Jefferson County Democratic Women's Organization, Fayette Community Garden Club, United Friends Society and Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Leon Dorsey Sr. and Mary Ella White Dorsey; and a sister, Louise Dorsey Cain.
Survivors include her husband, Seth Ballard of Fayette; two daughters, Mary Belinda Ballard of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Valencia O. Brumfield of Memphis; one son, Selwyn K. Ballard of Dallas; four sisters, Daisy Cobbins and Mamie Crockett, both of Jackson, Janie Johnson of Madison and Rosemary Townsend of Sacramento, Calif.; five brothers, Monroe Ballard and Samuel Ballard, both of Memphis, Sylvester Ballard of Pasadena, Texas, the Rev. Andrew Dorsey of Fayette and Leon Dorsey Jr. of Natchez; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
