Brazil is located seven miles Northeast of Sumner. A man called Lay settled the site in the mid 1800's and called it Lay. He later named it Bessie after his daughter. Smith Murphree owned the land in 1906 and when the railroad came through it was called Murphree's Spur. For some unknow reason, In 1915 it was changed to Brazil.
