William Caswell Walter Jones

William Caswell Walter Jones was born Feb. 10, 1873 in Pontotoc County, the son of Robert R. & Sarah Faulkner Jones. He was married Oct 14, 1897 to Miss Ora Davis. To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive their father. These are Mrs. Essie Wilder, Elford, and Earnest of Longview; George Robert of Clarksdale, MS; Mrs. Fred Harrington, Matson, MS; Erskine, Tutwiler, MS; and Maurice who is at home with his mother. There are fourteen grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, G.O. of Zion, and Johnnie of Ecru, and three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Goggans of Longview and Mrs. Emma Sappington and Mrs. W.A. Ray of Zion. Mr. Jones had been in failing health for several years, but his last illness was very brief. The death Angle brought his summons Wednesday afternoon, October 17, at 2:30 o'clock. The next day the funeral services were conducted from Longview church by the Reverend J.J. Pannell and the Rev. W.T. Darling, with internment in the Longview cemetery beneath a mound of flowers. In his boyhood, he professed faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the Longview Baptist Church where his membership remained until his death. But, whether near or far away, he was consistently a Christian gentleman. His life showed the stamp of Christ, both in public and in private. He was as much a christian at home, or in his field, or in his store as when sitting in his pew at church. Mr. Jones will be remembered as a devoted husband, a tender father and grandfather, a loyal brother, a generous uncle, a faithful friend, and a worthy citizen. He is especially remembered by many people for his tender and kind ministrations to the sick and afflicted. The night was never too dark, the weather too cold, the road too muddy, or the hours too long for him to go to a home where he was needed or could help relieve suffering. We know that with him all things are well because his life was ordered by HIM who doeth all things well. May the Lord bless and comfort those whose hearts are heavy with sorrow because of their loss. May He help them to live in such a way that their lives will shine before God as did the life of W.C. Jones.
