The old Alawine Springs Church still stands on the Alawine Road in the southwest corner of Kemper County, where it meets Neshoba County. We still have the Alawine Family Reunion there every year on the first Sunday in October. Old time preaching, singing, and dinner on the ground.
The Church is in the Alawine Springs Community, not Post. /p>
The Church was officially established in 1944 by Samuel Thomas and Maggie Evelina Skinner Alawine, in memory of them and all of their descendants. It was built several years before that, by Andrew Jackson Alawine and Lucretia Wells Alawine (parents of Samuel Thomas Alawine), and Samuel and Maggie Alawine.
There were 14 children born to Samuel and Maggie Alawine. My grandmother was Sylvia Dell Alawine Scarbrough, one of the twins born to Sam and Maggie Alawine. She married Grady Jefferson Scarbrough. I am attaching several pictures of the Church and of the Alawine Family.
