Barnes Family Letters

March 10, 1931

(The first page is an illegible letter started by Mary Barnes and finished by Sarah McEwen.)

Dear Loula:

Mama had to write Preston first after she told me she was going to write to you then her eyes were as she couldn't see so well and I am afraid you can't read it.

She is doing fine only she still gets morn and eve mixed when she goes to sleep in afternoon, said you let the day before, still tries to get up by herself. Took her to the table again yesterday - took a little cold from setting on porch Sun.

Don't know but think I have a real good negro woman to clean up dining room, kitchen, back porch & cook dinner.

I got to looking at the sox and decided the holes were to large to darn so patched 5 prs most caught up with sox fixing so think I will start my bed spread that I have stamped before it gets too hot to work on it. Well, Charley got McNeill told and Mr Gice came yesterday and I just had the best chance to tell him about Mary Allan, he first asked if she were my daughter, then wanted to know if she wasn't peeved - so I proceeded to let him know that she was.

Mama had a letter from Hugh yesterday said he had "flu" and was still in bed but nothing serious said he had gotten your letter.

I miss you so much and Mama does too, said she felt for you last night before she called me then called Mollie but it waked me.

Don't know any news only Mrs Herrin brought me some cracklings and had white frost this morn.

                              Lovingly Sallie

Write often for Mama loves to get letters.
