  Judge A. B. Longstreet was President of Emory University at the time
  Lamar attended. In 1849, Longstreet became President of the University
  of Mississippi. Lamar followed, opened a law practice in Oxford and
  additionally was assistant professor of mathematics. A.B. Longstreet
  raised and was the uncle of  Genl James Longstreet.
