26th Mississippi Infantry Regiment

This roster of the 26th Mississippi Infantry was compiled from serveral different sources.  I had compiled a list of soldiers from various sources, mainly cemetery records found on the web.  The bulk of the data came from the National Park Service Soldier and Sailor system.  Most of the 26th was captured at Ft. Donelson Feb. 16, 1862.  The ones who escaped captured were put in the 32nd Mississippi Infantry by order of Gen. Bragg.  In January 1863 after the regiment had been exchanged, Gen. Bragg ordered the members of the 26th who were in the 32nd back to the reorganized 26th.  A good bit of data on these men who were in the 32nd comes from Tommy Lockhart's book on the 32nd which is on these pages.  The Soldiers and Sailors system lists men by every spelling found in the records.  Some men are listed six or seven times.  I have attempted to weed out the duplicates but tried to ensure I did not delete all entries for any man, thus there are still some duplicates on the list.  When I found a man on two lists with different initials and felt reasonably certain they were the same man, I listed them with both initials with a "/" in between.  An "I" and a "J" looked very much alike.  That is why there are no company J's in any regiment, to avoid confusion.
