Some family history as it relates to the Slave Record

John Lewis Martin was born August 14, 1779 in Albermarle County, VA. He died
October 17, 1854 in Bolivar County, MS. He was the son of John Martin and Letitia
Lewis Martin from Virginia. He married Catherine Blanton, 1802 in Shelby, KY. She
was the daughter of John Blanton and Martha Belton Whitaker Blanton of Georgia
and South Carolina. She was born January 27, 1785 in Augusta, GA.

After moving to Kentucky, he settled in Lexington and Louisville. His daughter,
Nancy Oliver Martin married John Foster Anderson, son of George Anderson of
Ireland, and Rhoda Oliver Anderson of Virginia. Their son Orville Martin Anderson
was born August 14, 1828 in Kentucky.

It appears John Lewis Martin and John Foster Anderson, bought numerous parcels of
land in Washington County Mississippi around 1820. In 1850, Orville Martin
Anderson and his wife Caroline Timberlake Martin are listed in the Bolivar County
Census. I assume they lived on Timberlake Plantation. She died in 1855 and he died
in 1857.

The Slave Record; perhaps was part of the value of their estates. It notes value
estimated in 1854 and documented again in 1858.

I found this in the possessions of my grandmother, Margaret Anderson Kennedy
LeGette. She was daughter of Thomas Worsley Kennedy and Madge Pett Willard.
Her father was the son of Thomas Smith Kennedy and Catharine Martin Anderson
Kennedy. Catharine was sister to Orville Martin Anderson and granddaughter to John
Lewis Martin.

I hope this information will be helpful to others seeking their ancestors.
