Body found in Bogue
A body, found by rabbit hunters in a chute of the Bogue Phalla River near Leland Sunday, has been identified as that of a Leland man.

The body of Willie b Cauley of Leland was identified by his family today, according to Washington County Sheriff Harvey Tackett and Leland Police Chief W. C. Burnley Jr.

The man's age was listed as 72 by Dillon Funeral Home of Leland, which is handling funeral arrangements, but both Burnley and Tackett gave Cauley's age as 60.

"No evidence or indication at all of foul play"  was found by a medical examiner who checked the body, Tackett said.

According to the sheriff

Nathaniel White of 230 S Colorado St. in Greenville reported at 12:10 p.m.  Sunday that he and some companions found the body about two miles north of Wilmot Road on the Bogue Phalia.  The men were rabbit-hunting at the time.

The body was found in water in a chute off the bogue.

Cauley was reported missing by his family Dec 16.  "He apparently just wandered off from home" on foot, Tackett said.  "Of course, we don't know what happened after that."
