1890 MS Veterans & Widows Census
Index
This Census was taken from the National Archives at Washington Dc,
M123,126. It has taken me over a year to transcribe this film. Some of it
was very hard to read, as you will see in the lists. There are over 162 pages,
before the HTML codes were added. With the HTML codes there are 172 pages.
This is the reason we had to break it down into several pages. You can also

Below is some info he sent us about his great,great grandfather.
My great, great grandfather was John Duggan and served in Farragut’s Gulf Blockading Squadron from 1862-1865. He was wounded in the foot during the siege of Vicksburg and served primarily on the USS J.P. Jackson for most of the war. He was eventually discharged in Jan 1865 in Pascagoula. In one of his depositions for a pension, he said that he was originally from Roxbury MA and run away from home on/about 1847 and said that he served on the USS Brandywine as part of the Mediterranean Squadron. Between that time and the Civil War, he reenlisted in the US Navy and served on other tours, including a tour to the African coast to intercept slave traders. He lived the rest of his life working various jobs, as a fisherman, light house tender, etc. covering an area from Cat Island to Mississippi City. He survived two wives and died in 1902. He is buried in the Old Biloxi Cemetery (between Beach Blvd and Pass Road) next to his third wife Caroline.
It was my thoughts that this census was of Cival War Vetrans from Tallahatchie County, but this person said it is also of some Union Soldiers.
