1870

Sept. 17, 1870

The church was organized at this place today by Rev. Geo. P. Richardson, moderator and the following named members admitted: Isham W. Thomas and wife Mary Thomas, James H. Peden & wife Elizabeth E. Peden and Miss Mary Peden their daughter, Laban S. Kerr, Samuel J. Gattis and Mrs. Martha J. Gattis, and Edmond Kerr. After receiving the oregoing members the meeting resolved its self into a church meeting and the following persons were Elected Rulders: Isham W. Thomas, Laban S. Kerr and James Peden.

Sept. 18, 1870

Preaching at 11 o'clock by Rev Geo. P. Richardson. and the ordianance of the lord's Supper was celebrated for the first time at New Hope Church.

Sept 19, 1870

Preachin again today at the conclusion of which the following named persons presented themselves to the sessions and were admitted to the membership of the church on the profession of their faith: J. S. Thomspson and wife Mary Thompson, and Edward Gattis.

Oct. 2, 1870

Preaching by Rev. Geo. P. Richardson at the conclusion of which the following children were admitted and received the ordinance of Baptism: John Adolphus Peden,George Walton Peden, Mittie Telula Peden (children of James H. Peden & Elizabeth Peden), William Lemuel Thomas, Paulina Emeline Thomas, and Samuel Henry Thomas (children of Isham  Thomas and Mary A. Thomas.

Oct 16, 1870

Preaching at 11 'clock, at the conclusion of which the following persons presented themselves to the session and were admitted to membership of the church on the profession of their faith: Mrs. Mary E. Kerr, Miss Susan Gattis, Miss Saminamis Z. Peden and Aurelius C. Peden. On the same day the following children were admitted and received the Ordinance of Baptism: Charles Harper Thompson and Mary Freida Thompson (children of Joseph Thompson and Mrs. Mary Thompson).

Nov. 20, 1870

The session met at 11 o'clock at the church. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson the moderator with Elders I.W. Thomas, L.S. Kerr and J.H. Peden. Wen Mrs. Lucinda D.McAfee presented herself and was admitted to the membership of the church by letter from the Methodist church. The following is a copy of the letter: To all whome it may concern. this is to certify that Mrs. Lucinda D. McAfee has been an accepted member of the M.E. Church South Grenada district, Charelston circuit, north Miss.conference. This November 19, 1870 F. P. Pearson, P.C.  Preaching by Rev. Geo. P. Richardson after which there was a collection taken for the education of Ministry. Amount collected by I.W. Thomas & L.S. Kerr Elders $4.25.

Dec. 4, 1870

The session assembled at 11 o'clock a.m. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson, moderator with Elders L.S. Kerr, J.H. Peden and I.W. Thomas. Mr. John D. Kerr and Miss Mary J.Kerr presented themselves and were admitted to the full membership of the church at this place by letter from the Methodist church south grenada district Charleston circuit, north Miss. conference & also admitted to the full membership of the church Mrs.Martha E.Kerr, wife of L. S. Kerr on a profession of her faith. The following children were Admitted and received the ordinance of Baptism: Ida E. Kerr, Charles L. Kerr, William M. Kerr and Rhoda D. Kerr. all children of Laban S. Kerr and Martha E. Kerr. Preaching by Rev. Geo. P. Richardson

The minutes of New Hope Church Examined and approved as far as written with the following execptions: First, there is no mention made of the ordaining and installing of the Elders Elect to their office. Secondly, no mention is made of the opening the session with Prayer. Thirdly, children are to be Baptised and said to be admitted to the church. Approved at the session of north Miss.Presbytery at College Church.

The session met the church at 10 1/2 a.m. Present Rev. Geo P. Richardson moderator with Elders Isham W. Thomas, Laban S. Kerr & James H. Peden. The meetin was opened with Prayer. The following persons presented themselves and were examined and admitted to the full membership of the church on a profession of their faith in Christ: Viz. Mrs. Mary Lee Calhoun, Miss Margarett Kerr and Miss Louisa Virginia Jones. The sesiion the adjourned. Preaching at 11 o'clock a.m. by Rev. Geo. P. Richardson at the conclusion The Lord's Supper was taken.

Aug. 6, 1871

The Session met at the church at 10 o'clock am Sabbath. Present Rev Geo. P. Richardson moderator with Elders L.S. Kerr, J.H. Peden and I.W. Thomas. The meeting was opened with prayer. When the following persons presented themselves and were admitted to the full membership of the church: Mrs. Mary A. Worsley and Mr. Zenis M. Kerr on their profession of faith in Christ, and Mrs. R.C. Kerr (wife of M. Kerr) by letter from the Methodist Church. The Session then adjourned. Preaching at 11 o'clock a.m. by Rev. M. Smith, at the conclusion of which the communion of the Lord's Supper was celebrated.

Aug. 8, 1871

Preaching today at 11 o'clock at conclusion of which the doors of the church were opened and the following members admitted: Mrs. Anitta Thomas and Miss Mary S. Jones. Both received the ordinace of Baptism. Preaching again at candle ling.

Aug. 9, 1871

Preaching today at 11:00 a.m. and the doors of the church were opened and the following persons admitted to membership: Mr. A.H. Chadwell and wife Mrs. Alice B. Chadwell. Mr. Chadwell was Baptized and their infant daughter Genevieve B. Chadwell was also Baptized at the same time. Preaching at night when the following persons were admitted to the membership of the church on a profession of their faith in the redemption of Christ: Mr. Ethel Worsley aged about 75 years. He also received the ordinance of Baptism, and Mrs. Mary J. Crenshaw.

Aug 10, 1871

Preaching at 11 o'clock a.m. when the doors of the church were opened and the following persons were admitted to membership of the church of professing their faith in Christ: Mr. Thomas McGough, Mrs. Elizabeth M. McGough and Miss Martha Gattis.

Aug. 13, 1871

Preaching at 11 o'clock Sabbath a.m. and the doors of the church were opened and the following persons admitted to membership on a profession of their faith in Christ: Mr. James M. Tribble, Mrs. Lavina B. Tribble and Fatima Cambell. Preaching at night when Mr. Thomas F. Campbell presented himself to the Session and was admitted to the membership of the church of professin his faith in the atoning Blood of Christ. he was also Baptized.

Sept. 1, 1871

The Session met at the church today, when Mr. Thomas McGough and Mrs. Elizabeth McGough were dismissed from the church at their own request after being members of the Presbyterian Church at this place thirty three days.

The Session met at Ashland Church at 11 o'clock a.m. and the following persons presented themselves and were admitted to the full membership of the church on professing their faith in Christ: Mr. Alexander Ladley and Mrs. Ella Morrison. Present Rev Geo. P. Richardson moderator with Elders I.W. Thomas, L.S. Kerr and J.H. Peden. Session opened with Prayer.

The Session met at the church today. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson moderator with Elders J.H. Peden, L.S. Kerr and I.W. Thomas. When J.H. Peden was approved delegate to the next Presbytery to be held at Sardis, Miss. on the 25th day of this month. Mr. A.H. Chadwell was Elected Deacon of the church. Session opened with Prayer.

The Session met at the church this evening. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson moderator with Elder J.H. Peden & I.W. Thomas. The meeting was opened with prayer. Mrs. Louisa Russell and Miss Ella T. Gattis apeared before the Session and after a thourough examination as to their faith in Christ were admitted into full membership of the church.

Oct 4, 1874

The Session met at the church at 10 o'clock a.m. and was opened with Prayer. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson moderator, with Elders L. S. Kerr, J.H.Peden & I.W. Thomas. When Elder L.S. Kerr made a formal application for letters of dismissal from this church in anticipation of removing beyond it's reach. The request was granted and the clerk instructed to issue the same. To wit: To L.S. Kerr & wife M. E. Kerr & their Baptized children Ida E. Kerr, Charles L. Kerr, William M. Kerr, Rhoda Kerr & Lucy Clementine Kerr. The clerk was also instructed to issue a letter of dismissal to Sam J. Gattis for the same reason.

The Session met at the church at 8 o'clock p.m. and was opened with prayer. Present Rev. Geo. P. Richardson Moderator with Elders J. H. Peden & I.W. Thomas.  Mr. A. C. Fonda and his two daughters Miss Anna J and Miss Avis Fonda presented themselves to the Session and after Examination were admitted into full communion of the church.  Session closed with Prayer.

Peden alternate to the next meeting of the Presbytery to be held at Grenada begining on Thursday before the third Sunday in April next.

The Session met at the church at 11 o'clock a.m. Present Elders J. H. Peden, J.R. Miller & I. W. Thomas. Elder J. R. Miller was chosen moderator Pro Tem. Session was opened with prayer. When a letter of dismissal was granted to Mr. S. M. Hanks. And Elder Peden was chosen delegate and I.W. Thomas alternate to the next meeting of Presbytery to be held Pleasant Grove beginning Thursday the 21st day of September next. Elders I.W. Thomas Principal & J. H. Peden alternate rendered their excuse for non attendence at the last meeting of Presbytery which was satisfactory to the Session.
