Did you know that Tallahatchie County has 2 County seats? Yes they are,
Charleston, and Sumner. Mississippi are the county seats.
Tillatoba was a county
seat for a while, but in 1837 the Board of Police found it necessary to abandon
Tillatoba and seek another location.
Charleston goes back much farther than 1837.The
land around the Charleston area was opened for settlement in 1833. Information

Many times when our ancestors disappear from a county, they
have merely moved to a neighboring county.
Sometimes they haven't moved at
all but the county line moved putting them in a different county.
