Panola County Military UnitsPanola County Mexican War (1846-1848) UnitMen from Panola County served in the Second Regiment, Mississippi Infantry under Capt. A. A. Overton. The regiment was known as the Panola Boys and was raised in response to the governor's call for volunteers on November 26, 1846 and mustered at Vicksburg on January 1-5, 1847. A brief history of the unit and the battles in which it fought can be found in Military History of Mississippi 1803-1898 by Dunbar Rowland (Spartanburg, South Carolina, The Reprint Company, 1988.) on pages 29-30.
