ACKERMAN -- Services for Howell Watson Henson Sr. will be held today
at 2 p.m. at Weir Baptist Church in Weir.
Mr. Henson, 81, of Weir, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Baptist East
Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Henson was a World War II veteran and flew
27 combat missions over Germany as a door gunner on a B-24. After returning
home from service, he enrolled at Mississippi State University where he
graduated in 1947.
After graduating from MSU, Mr. Henson returned to his home in Weir where
he worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier
for 38 years. During those years he was very active with the Masons, Boy
Scouts and the Weir Baptist Church.
Mr. Henson was an avid bird hunter and an enthusiastic MSU fan. He was
a loving husband and wonderful supportive father to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Ruth Henson of Weir; three children,
Bobbye Legan and her husband, Scot, of Monroe, La.; Hal Henson Jr. and
his wife, Donna, of Houston, Texas; and Trisha Collier and her husband,
Terry, of Meridian; six grandchildren, Lee Collier Harper of Oxford; Lauri
Legan Brown of Meridian; Ash Henson of Austin, Texas; Tim Legan of Monroe,
La.; Cissy Collier of Seattle, Wa.; and Patti Collier Pittman of Jackson;
four great-grandchildren, Anna Lauren and Laura Ashley Brown, Ben Harper

Mrs. Sims, 22, of Starkville and Columbus, died Sunday, June 16, 2002,
in her home. Valerie was a precious person with a beautiful smile and she
brought a ray of sunshine into everyone's life that was fortunate enough
to know her. When she knew her time was near she was an inspiration to
us all with her courage, determination and the love she showed us throughout
her final days.
We are all comforted to know that her days of suffering are over, but
are heartbroken to let her go.

She was preceded in death by one child and two siblings.

in the nursery of Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center for 27 years. She
was a member of Fifth Street United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern

the Rose Garden Club. A lifelong resident of Meridian, she is survived

Mr. Henley, 79, of Union, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Jeff Anderson
Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his sons, Scott Henley of Pensacola,
Fla., and Todd Henley of Waynesboro; a brother, Cliff Henley of Conroe,
Texas; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable
Henley. Pallbearers were Stanley Henley, James Henley, Henry Caney, Eddie

Retired COVINGTON, La. -- Memorial services for Charles E. McDonald were
held Monday at 3 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home. Mr. McDonald, of Covington,
La., died Friday, June 21, 2002, in his home. He was a native of Meridian.
He was retired and a past president of PMMC during his later years. He
achieved recognition for his track and field ability in high school and
at the University of Alabama. At Alabama, he was a member of Kappa Alpha
fraternity and the Alabama "A Club." He served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II as a chief specialist with the Navy V-12 program. He also
served in a coaching position at Princeton University in New Jersey and
Howard College in Birmingham, Ala. He was station on the Guadalcanal for
the remainder of his service. Survivors include his wife, Sally McDonald;
daughters, Janie Allen, Sarah Nell Miquer and Diane Lingl; eight grandchildren,
four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Charles E. McDonald and Annelle B. McDonald; a daughter,
Suzanne Guillot; and a sister, Nell Crutchfields. Memorials may be made
