QUITMAN -- Graveside services for Joyce Earl Jenkins Cooper were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Elim Cemetery in Clarke County with the Revs. Jim Rickles and Ray McCorkle officiating. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 
 

Mrs. Cooper, 66, of Quitman, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in her home. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and the Relay for Life Cancer Team. She was born Oct. 16, 1935 in Sylacauga. 
 

Survivors include four sisters, Betty Jenkins Means and her husband, Roy, Mary Jenkins Faile and her husband, Dudley, Eula Jenkins Thompson and her husband, Paul, and Mattie Jenkins Killen and her husband, J.D.; and several nieces and nephews. 
 

She is preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, Freddie Earl Jenkins and Mattie Todd. 
 

Pallbearers were Paul Thompson, J.D. Killen, David Jenkins, Dudley Faile, Blake Thompson and Ronnie Cook.

Mrs. Thompson, 86, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Chaney, 80, of Meridian, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a retired factory worker and also worked in department stores. 
 

Survivors include two daughters, Marie Williamson of Senatobia and Sharon Ellison of Marion; grandchildren, Edwin Lee "Eddie" Chaney of Decatur, Lauri Leigh Jones of Senatobia and Stefanie Leigh Ellison of Marion; great-grandchildren, Haley Chaney, Austin Chaney and Peyton Jones; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Chaney of Decatur; a brother, J.G. Pittman of Decatur; a half brother, Charles Pittman of Missouri; and a half sister, Iva Jean Litton of Greenville. 
 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Lee Chaney; and a son, Edwin Lee "Ed" Chaney. 
 

Pallbearers will be Eddie Chaney, Jerry Howard, Dale Williamson, Steve Ellison, Jonathan Jones, Larry Huey and Benjamin Pittman. 
 

Visitation will be today until service time at the funeral home.

Services for Victor Huddleston will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Duffee Community. 
 

Mr. Huddleston, 92, of Meridian, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in his home. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 31st Infantry Division. He was a life long member of the VFW and the American legion.
 

Survivors include his wife, Julia F. Huddleston of Meridian; a daughter, Charlotte Huddleston of Clarksdale; two sisters, Verna Mae Dorman of Meridian and Majorie Smith of Duluth, Ga.; a brother, Prentiss D. Huddleston of Little Rock; and several nieces and nephews. 
 

He was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Carrie Huddleston; a brother, Ernest "Bill" and two sister, Lucy Chesney and Lora Harris. 
 

Pallbearers will be H.F. Boswell, Johnny Gardner, Cliff Gardner, Jack Harris, Raymond Torrance and Dexter Torrance. 
 

DR. ROBERT P. RUSSELL 
 

JACKSON -- Services for Dr. Robert P. "Skip" Russell will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson. A memorial service will also be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Paris Yates Chapel on the University of Mississippi Campus in Oxford. Mark Seepe Funeral Home and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements. 
 

Dr. Russell, 56, a 24-year Jackson area ophthalmologist, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in his home in Brandon. 
 

He was a longtime Mississippi resident, graduate of the University High School in Oxford and a graduate of distinction from the University of Mississippi, class of 1967. He was a member of sigma Chi Fraternity and a loyal supporter of Ole Miss in every way. 
 

Dr. Russell received his medical degree in 1971 from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Following his internship from 1971-72 at Baptist Memorial Hospital he served two years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1972-74 at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology from 1974-77 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Russell was associated with Dr. Bill Aden and Dr. Brannon Aden at the Mississippi Vision Correction Center. 
 

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Olivia Walker Russell of Brandon; a daughter, Denise Russell of Greenville, N.C.; a son, Robert P. "Kip" Russell Jr. of Ridgeland; parents, Austin "Russ" and Ruby Pritchard Russell of Oxford; brother, Dr. Dave Russell and his wife, Lynn, nephews, David and Dan Russell, and a niece, Jennifer Russell, all of Meridian; his father-in-law, Tommie Walker and a brother-in-law, Wilkins Walker, both of Jackson. 
 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the University of Mississippi Foundation or the Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation, P.O. Box 249, University, MS 38677.

Mrs. McCoy, 84, of DeKalb, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. 
 

Survivors include two sons, Milton Eugene McCoy Jr. and his wife, Elaine, of Lafayette, La., and David Lee McCoy and his wife, Debra, of DeKalb; a daughter, Joann Scott and her husband, Robert, of Columbia, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene McCoy Sr.

Miss Hicks, 89, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Queen City Nursing Center. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. 
 

Survivors include a sister, Flora Watts and her husband, Walter W. Watts Sr., of Meridian; niece, Susan Elizabeth Parker and her husband, Tom, of Sandersville; a nephew, Walter W. Watts Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Jackson; a great-niece, Ashlyn Watts and several other nieces and nephews.

JOHN SMITH WEEMS 

Retired school teacher 
 

JACKSON -- Services for John Smith Weems were to be held today at 11 a.m. at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson. Graveside services are today at 3:45 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 
 

Mr. Weems, 78, a resident of Jackson for more than 57 years, died Monday, Jan, 28, 2002, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. 
 

A native of Meridian, he graduated for Mississippi State University and began his career as a teacher and counselor at Jackson's Central High School in 1944. He was executive secretary of the Mississippi State Student Council Organization for 25 years and worked with three national associations, Presidential Classroom for Young Americans, the National Association for Secondary School Principals and the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. 
 

Mr. Weems received a master of arts degree for the University of Alabama in 1977. He then taught at Jackson Prep for seven years, retiring in May of 1986. 
 

Mr. Weems was a deacon of Northminster Baptist Church and a member of the MSU Alumni Association, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, DeMolay, and the William Moore Dalehite Coffee Club. In his later years, Mr. Weems was instrumental in the Central High School Alumni Association's restoration of the Central High School a building that now houses the Mississippi Department of Education. The building's "Hall of Memories" exhibit features Central High memorabilia and tributes attesting Mr. Weem's dedication to maintaining Central High's spirit for years to come. 
 

Mr. Weems is survived by his sister, Margaret Weems Armstrong of Meridian; sister-in-law, Betsy Barrell Weems of Meridian; nephew, Richard Armstrong of Starkville; two nieces, Anne Langford Frame of Brentwood, Tenn., and Margaret Betsy Weems of Charlottesville, Va.; several cousins and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Carrie, 86, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in her home. She was a past volunteer for the Cancer Society chairperson for Clarke County, a member of the Homemakers of America, and lifelong member of Energy Church. 
 

Mrs. Carrie was active and well known throughout her community for her hospitality and faithfulness to her church, as well as her service to others. 
 

One of her many honors, as being one of the top "Avon Ladies" during her 20 years, besides being awarded a three carrot diamond ring, was a memorable trip for two to Monte Carlo, where she had the pleasure of sitting at the same table and dining with the late Princess Grace of Monaco. 
 

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Harvey Dearman, daughters, Doree Irby and her husband, Billy, Nora Lee Irby, Hilda Davidson and her husband, Robert, all of Energy; seven grandchildren, Bruce, Tommy, Jerry and Craig Irby, Audrey Clearman, Suzanne Raley, Rodney Davidson; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Daisy Fisher, Flora Dearman, Clarice Davidson, three brothers, Willis, Wilburn and Roy Lee Moffett, all of Meridian. 
 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Moffett; two brothers, Richard and Freeman Moffett; and two sisters, Annie Weeks and Lorene Lee.

Mr. Tisdale, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002. He was retired from T.M. Burgin Demolition Company where he was the local manager. He and his wife are members of the Hayden Baptist Church. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Lois P. Tisdale, daughter, Faye Wilson and her husband, Dennis, and a son, Ronald Tisdale and his wife, Nancy, all of Birmingham; grandchildren, Christine Bosher of Miami, Joseph Wilson of Pasadena, Calif., and Beth and Joey Tisdale of Birmingham; brothers, Bob and Grace Tisdale of Stern, N.C., and Frank and Imogene Tisdale of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Higginbotham, 54, of Shuqualak, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in his home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Noxubee County. He attended Shuqualak Public Schools. Mr. Higginbotham served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded the Air Medal and Bronze Star for his service. He coached little league baseball for 10 years. 
 

Mr. Higginbotham loved his grandchildren, Mississippi State University and the Saint Louis Cardinals. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church and an avid hunter who served as secretary and treasurer of the White House Mountain Hunting Club.

Rev. Windham, 86, of Collinsville, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice. 
 

Survivors include his wife, Hollie K. Windham; two daughters, Essie Moncrief and her husband, Clarence, of Collinsville, Laronda Moore and her husband, Derick, of Meridian; two sons, Johnny Windham and his wife, Mary, and Elijah Windham, all of Collinsville; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfonzo Windham and his wife, Rosie, of Rosamond, Calif., Zora Windham and his wife, Mildred, of Detroit, and Ensley Windham and his wife, Tina, of Anderson, Ind.; several other relatives and friends. 
 

He was preceded in death by two children and four siblings.

Mr. Ramsey, 59, of Detroit, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit. He was a retired truck driver for the Chrysler Corporation and was a native of Lauderdale County.

Mrs. Walker, 80, a former resident of Meridian, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Birmingham, Ala. She was a nursing instructor for Meridian Community College. A lifetime member of First Baptist Church and in charge of the nursery at the church for more than 40 years. 
 

Survivors include her husband, Rodney Walker, daughter, Cynthia Tilghman and her husband, Steve, all of Birmingham; a step-daughter, Ginny Walker of Acworth, Ga.; a brother, Selby Nelson of House; a sister, Lois Smith of Meridian; grandsons, Chris Tilghman of Philadelphia and Lee Tilghman of Birmingham; granddaughter, Kee Tilghman of Richmond, Va.; step-granddaughter, Michele Van Wandingham and a step-grandson, Tyler Walker, both of Brandon.
