Northeast Mississippi Historical & Genealogical Society Meeting
The Northeast Mississippi Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014 at the Lee County Library, 219 N. Madison, Tupelo, MS. The program is free and open to the public. The program will be in observance of Black History Month. Kenneth Mayfield, a Tupelo attorney, will be the speaker. Born in Okolona, MS, Dr. Mayfield was graduated from Fannie Carter High School with honors. He enrolled in the University of Mississippi during a time of Civil Rights turmoil and after participating in Civil Rights activities, he was suspended from the University. He later enrolled in Tougaloo College where he was graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in political science. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School. After college, he worked with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Jackson, MS and, in 1974, he set up a civil rights practice of law in Tupelo, MS where he currently serves as senior attorney in the Mayfield Law Firm, P.A. His professional experience includes serving as Municipal Judge for the City of Okolona and Board Attorney for the Noxubee County School District. He has authored "To Be Born Black in Mississippi", an autobiography and "The Civil Rights Lawyer".

Northeast Mississippi Historical & Genealogical Society Meeting
The Northeast Mississippi Historical and Genealogical Society will meet Thursday October 24, 2013 6 p.m. at the Lee County Library, Tupelo, MS. This will be a working meeting in the Genealogy Department. Attendees will be working on their own family trees and learning to utilized the library's resources. Visitors are welcome to attend.

Dudie Burger Festival is May 4, 2013, from 10 am to 3 pm.
