Dorothy Brister

Dorothy “Doris” Dell Brister, 69, of Summit, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children.

Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday until services at 2 p.m. at Hartman chapel. Bro. Hugh Lambert will officiate, and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit.

Mrs. Brister was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Summit to Albert S. Van Norman and Fanny Gertrude Van Norman.

She was a retired certified nurse assistant and worked for McComb Extended Care for more than 23 years. Her family said she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, confidante and friend. They said she always stood strong for things she believed in and welcomed all who entered her life as a friend.
She leaves behind a multitude of friends — a legacy anyone would hope for, her family said.

Mrs. Brister was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie Marcus Brister; and three brothers, Albert Van Norman Jr., Hebert Van Norman and Dan Van Norman.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus W. and Lorna Brister of Denham Springs, La., David B. and Lauren Brister of Summit and Jeff K. and Charlene Brister of Brookhaven; two daughters, Patricia D. Hill and husband Curtis of Baton Rouge, La., and Jo Anna Laird of Summit; five brothers, James, Alvin, Jerry, Richard and Frank Van Norman; four sisters, Mary Louise Dixon, Katie Manuel, Linda Spance and Diane Brewer; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Brister, Eric Brister, Johnny Dispensire, Tommy Dispensire, Jeffrey Brister Jr., Steve Van Norman and Marc Brister. Honorary pallbearers are Timmy and Kevin Van Norman.

Faye Etheridge

Doris Faye Etheridge, 67, of McComb, died May 1, 2004, at Heartfelt Hospice in Meridian.

Visitation is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, until services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Harold Gartman will officiate. Burial will be in Rushing Cemetery in Tylertown.

Mrs. Etheridge was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Tylertown. She was the daughter of Walter Dave Etheridge and Bernice Crawford Etheridge.

She was a bookkeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church in McComb.

Mrs. Etheridge was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilkie Dave Etheridge; and two sisters, Bernell Etheridge Height and Glenda Etheridge.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Cloy and Mable Etheridge of Baton Rouge, La., Clarence and Janice Etheridge of McComb, and Harold Etheridge of Maurepas, La.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Willeen and Larry O’Quin of River Ridge, La., and Jean Fortenberry Clark and Lenard Clark of Meridian; a sister-in-law, Shirley Bellevue Etheridge of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Wyno B. Brent

Peggy Wyno Boyd Brent, 70, of Summit, died April 29, 2004, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.

Visitation continues from 10 a.m. to noon today at Catchings Funeral Home and 2 p.m. at Enon Baptist Church until services at 3. The Revs. Barry Cutrer, Jimmy Houston and Harold Gartman will officiate. Burial will be in Bogue Chitto Carter’s Creek Cemetery in Pricedale.

Mrs. Brent was born Nov. 18, 1933, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Grady Willie Boyd and Irma Alexander Boyd.

She was retired from Kellwood Co. with 35 years service. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Billie Joe and Bobby Boyd.

Mrs. Brent is survived by her husband of 52 years, Julius Brent of Summit; one son and daughter-in-law, Kelby Preston Brent and Pam Smith Brent of Summit; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Jo Duncan and Buddy Duncan of McComb; six
grandchildren and their spouses, Ky and Amanda Brent and Greg Duncan, all of McComb, Kandi Jo Brent and Kody and Josh Tullos, all of Summit, Kasey and Robert Causey of San Diego, Calif., and Beth and Justin Stafford of Springfield, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Garrett, Kelsie and Katelin Brent and Brentlee Tullos, all of Summit; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Thomas and Gloria Boyd and Donny and Marian Boyd, all of Pricedale, Jerry and Linda Boyd of Slaughter, La., and Maxine Boyd of Natchez; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Evelyn Boyd Brent and Donald of Natchez, Kippy Boyd Bibby and Jackie Boyd Palmer and Steven, all of Zachary, La., and Shelia Boyd Deer of Vicksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Blake Boyd, Derek Boyd, Dana Alexander, Brad Alexander, Peanut Boyd, Mickey Boyd, Wayne Boyd, Doc Boyd, Mark Boyd and Andy Boyd.

Lillye Fae Carruth

Lillye Fae Boyd Carruth, 78, of Summit, died May 2, 2004, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation continues 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mars Hill Baptist Church, until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Brett Campbell and the Rev. Riley Hinton will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Carruth was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Lawrence County. She was the daughter of H.N. and Arrie Marbury Boyd.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. She was valedictorian of her high school class at Carter’s Creek. Her family said she loved to do needlework and was an expert at crochet and sewing.

Mrs. Carruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.P. “Pete” Carruth; five brothers, Shelton, Grady, Richard, Corbett and Marvin Boyd; one sister and brother-in-law, Cordie and Bennet Beeson; and a grandson, Warren Dykes.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Janice Carruth of Summit; one daughter, Dianne Carruth of Summit; three grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy Moore and Hank of McComb, and Lisa and Kevin Wells, and Jan and
Frankie Thornhill, all of Summit; six great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Roberts, Hannah Wells, Ryan Wells, Kayla Thornhill, Bradley Thornhill and Tony Moore; one brother and his wife, Alton and Naomi Boyd of Fairhope, Ala.; one brother-
in-law and his wife, Melroy and Lyndell Boyd Carruth of Jackson; five sisters-in-law, Rosemary Boyd of St. Rose, La., Geraldine Boyd of Prairieville, La., Evelyn Brown of Bogue Chitto, Waddie Boyd of McComb and Joyce Boyd of Hattiesburg.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Carruth’s nephews.

The family requests memorials be sent to the Mars Hill Baptist Church Music Department, 6145 N. Greensburg Road, Summit, MS 39666.

Leigh Ann Wooley

Leigh Ann Wooley, 37, of Columbia, died there April 30, 2004, at Marion County General Hospital.

Funeral services will be private. Catchings Funeral Home in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Wooley was born May 15, 1966, in Jackson. She was the daughter of Ronald E. Wooley and Patricia Pittman Ware.

She was a licensed practical nurse and a member of First Baptist Church in Summit.

Miss Wooley was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jewell Wooley, and her maternal grandfather, John Pittman.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Ronald E. Wooley and Betty Hagan Wooley of Summit; her mother and stepfather, Patricia Pittman Ware and Gene Ware of Mansfield, Texas; two sisters, Kristin Duran and her husband Art of
Lake Jackson, Texas, and Susanna Wooley of Summit; one stepsister, Shannon Jones and her husband Curt of Summit; one stepbrother, Wesley Scott and his wife Megan of Clinton; her paternal grandmother, Christine Pittman of Dallas; her stepgrandmother, Elisa Hagan of Summit; and numerous nieces and nephews.
