PRIVATE ROBERT ROSS
Private Robert Ross, Jr., an fantryman serving with A. F. F. in France, died there Sept. 30th, 1918. He was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ross of this county, and had been in France several months.
He belonged to the branch of the Ross family that came to Ameica in the early days and settled on the James River. They suffered many hardships and many of them were killed in the mssacre of 1622. Those who survived drifted on to South Crolina, and the immediate branch of which this soldier was a descendant came from South Carolina to Jefferson County, Miss., in 1805, so we have given up a descendnt of one of the oldest families in the county.
Robet Ross, Jr., was born and grew into manhood only a few miles from where these early settlers made their home, and the years of his life stand as credit to worthwhile living. He gave his life for his country.
