A note from Diane:
My name is Diane Shackleford
Small. I have had relatives in Jefferson County and surrounds from
about 1774 until 1882. I am a direct descendent of William Ferguson
and Paulina Burch Ferguson (Mt. Locust). Their daughter Philadelphia
Ferguson married Edmund Shackleford. Edmund and Philadelphia had
several sons including Judge George "Wash" Shackleford who appears
with his wife Josephine Cotton (her step-father was H. B.
Coker--battle of Champion Hill) in the Susan Sillers diaries. So the
reason for this is I have been in touch with Rick Chamberlain at Mt.
Locust and he sent me some really old pictures which were in the
possession of either Paulina Burch Ferguson Chamberlain or
Philadelphia Shackleford. Most are unidentified but there is
probably some association with either the Cotton, Shackleford,
Ferguson, Chamberlain families. A couple have labels which offer a
clue but otherwise nothing.
All pictures were in the possession of the Chamberlains, Shackleford?, or Ferguson families of Jefferson County/Mt. Locust--probably Paulina Ferguson Chamberlain.
I should also mention that these pictures may have also been sent to Ferguson or Chamberlain descendents--not just Paulina Burch Ferguson Chamberlain. Paulina and Wm Ferguson's daughter Philadelphia Ferguson married Edmund Shackleford. So there are a lot of possible connections. Also, Paulina Burch Ferguson Chamberlain's mother married a Truly. So the Truly family might also be a possibility.
