A Mississippi to Texas Story
The blond little girl about 6 and the dark haired boy about 3 are Doris Elizabeth Gabourel. Her brother was Hubert Gabourel. They were the children of Una Mae Pierce and John Gabourel, my aunt and uncle. Uncle John was from Utilla Island, Honduras, and that accounts for the dark skin of my cousin.
Doris and Hubert Gabourel were born in Port Arthur, Jefferson, Texas, as I was.
Doris is still alive, and I saw her in June 2006 when I was in Port Arthur.
Their grandfather and mine was Francis Marion Pierce, who was a brother to William Albert and Nettie Pierce from Pleasant Hill, whose daughter Annie Bell McNeill had these photos.
My grandparents, Frank and Lizzie Pierce left Mississippi in 1912 and moved to Texas.
