The Accounts Due the Estate of Thomas Moore for the Store at
Beauregard, MS
Transcribed by his great granddaughter, Elaine Randall
English, P. O. Box 477 Lakemont, GA
30552 in February 2004.
Thomas Moore died 30 June 1875 in Panola Co., MS. His will was probated in that county and the
following accounts were a part of the legal documents that were generated
during the execution of the will.
Thomas had a store in Beauregard, Copiah Co., MS from about
1866 or 1867 until the family moved up to Panola County in 1872. The store sold every thing from coffins to
cloth to candy and an attached blacksmith shop also was part of the service of
the store. Apparently there was a
pharmacy of sorts there as well, for the daughter of Thomas Laura Stiles Moore
married James Edward Weymouth who was for his entire adult life an apothecary
or pharmacist.
The below are accounts that
were unpaid at the time that Thomas died.
It was later determined that the accounts would not fall within the
statues for collection. Some notations
such as Col. or Cold. Are possibly to denote Colored. Some accounts also list Freedman as part
of a persons record. Possibly a
missing relative or ancestor whos location cannot be found on other records
may be lurking there!
Good luck!

Transcribers note:
This lot of goods is almost certainly preparations of the funeral of
James Edward Weymouths wife, Laura Stiles Moore Weymouth, daughter of Thomas
& Lydia Thetford Moore (who owned the store). Laura died on 26th July 1871, leaving one son, Albert
Edward Weymouth, for whom the boys hat was probably purchased.
