Suicide Ruled in Death of Terry
J. Dalton
Corinth, Mississippi, Dec.
4th-Terry Dalton, 70, was found dead Sunday in a stock
pond on his farm in the Hinkle Community. A coroner's inquiry returned a
verdict of suicide. Mr. Dalton had been struck on the
head. A hammer was found when the pond was drained. He had been in ill
health for several months and had been despondent, the investigation
revealed.
Mr. Dalton was
born in Alcorn County and was county superintendent of schools for eight
years. He also served Alcorn County in the state Legislature for a term.
He was a teacher in county schools for many years.
Mr. Dalton was
a Baptist and a Mason. In 1905 he married Miss Walne Conn,
who survives. He also leaves four sons, Lonnie Dalton,
Rienzi; Henry Dalton, Corinth; Terry J. Dalton,
Jr., Washington, D.C., and Robert Dalton, Oak Ridge,
Tennessee; three brothers, Lon Dalton, Corinth; Walker
Dalton, Rienzi, and Arthur Dalton,
Kossuth, and two sisters, Mrs. J.D. Rinehart and Mrs.
Addie Mills, Rienzi.
Services were held Tuesday at
Wheeler Church by the Rev. G.B. Basden. Burial was in
Hinkle Cemetery.
