Narramore/Naramore/Narimore

Narramore/Naramore/Narimore By: Vicki Burress Roach

Elijah William Narramore was born ca1798-1805. It is speculated by other researchers

that he was the son of Edward Narramore, Jr. and grandson of Edward Narramore, Sr.

According to James Narramore, Edward descends from Thomas Narramore who

appeared in Norfolk Co., MA in 1664.

Earliest documentation of the Narramore name originated in Devon County, England. It

means "north of the moor or near the moor".

Elijah had a first marriage and children by Frances Reagan. By his second marriage to

Sarah M. around 1820 he fathered six children. Elijah was born in SC and is buried in

Marshall Springs TX. He was a farmer.

The Narramores left SC and spent some time in Hall Co., GA. "Eli" is on the 1820, 1830

and 1840 census of Hall Co., GA. From GA they came to Old Tish. Co. MS and appear

on the 1850 census of Old Tish. Co with his family and his next door neighbor is J.W.

Narramore and wife, Sarah. There were at least 3 daughters by Elijah’s first marriage

with connections to Old Tish. Co., MS; Mandy, Elizabeth and Emily (my line). 1853 tax

polls for Old Tish. Co. show Wm. Narramore, Jackson W. and Eli W. In 1854

P.M.(Pinkney) Naremore married Peter Crum with Alfred Naromor as bondsman. Eli had

a son Alfred by second marriage. In 1853 Ben Johnson deeded 158 acres to E.W.

Narrimore. In 1855 Ben Johnson deeded 157 acres to J.W. Narramore. In 1856-1859

Old Tish. Co. school records there are the following Narrimore children; Em., Wm., J.

page 165, Emily, Jamie, Willie page 215, Sarah, James and William page 17 (1857). The

board of police records for 1858 list J.M. Narramore as a hand keeping up a road for

"from 13 miles past to 15 miles past". In 1859 tax polls there is Mrs. N.J. Narramore.

The Old Tish. Co. census for 1860 shows one Narramore family, Nancy and 4 children.

She is a tax payer for 1861. William is a tax payer for 1869. 1870 lists E.W.and N.J. as

tax payers. In 1875 Sheriff J.C. Potts deeded land to W.E. Narramore.

James Voyles and Ruth Garren Henson had 2 sons who married Narramores. George

Washington Voyles first married Mandy Narrimore and second to Elizabeth Narrimore.

James Voyles, Jr. married Emily Narrimore. James and Emily are my ggg grandparents.

Emily was born 8/16/1816 in Hall Co., GA and died 3/6/1888 and is buried in

Farmington Cemetery in Alcorn Co., MS.
