George R. Robertson Rites Tuesday
George R. Robertson, 76 year old resident of Vernonia for the past twenty
years, passed away Monday morning, March 7, 1966 at the Physicians &
Surgeons hospital in Portland following an extended illness. In recent months
he had been making his home with his daughter, Virgie Pugh at Lake Oswego,
Oregon.
Funeral services were conducted at the Fuiten - Friesen Mortuary, Vernonia
Tuesday, March 8, 1966 at 2:00 p.m.
The Rev. William Armstrong, pastor of the Vernonia Assembly of God church
officiated at the services with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Franks singing as a duet
and Mrs. Lloyd Thomas, organist. Honorary casket bearers were four of his
grandsons, Charles, Donald, Gary and Delmar Robertson. Concluding services and
burial will be at the family plot at the Memorial Park cemetery at Louisville,
Mississippi Friday, March 11, 1966 at 2:00 p.m.
Born March 13, 1890 at Louisville, Mississippi, he was the son of Thomas M.
and Georgia Robertson. He had lived 'his entire lifetime within ten miles of
his birthplace until coming to Vernonia in 1946. He was united in marriage to
Virena Miles at Louisville on November 23, 1911 and they celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary here in 1961. Mrs. Robertson preceded him in death
here in August 1964.
Surviving are nine children; Albert Cleveland and Raymond Glenn Robertson,
both of Vernonia; James Paul Robertson of Castle Rock, Washington and Shirley
0neal Robertson of Medford; Mrs. W. T. (Virgie) Pugh, Lake Grove; Mrs. Charles
(Esther) Ruth, Longview; Washington; Mrs. George (Tharis) King, Corvallis; Mrs.
Don (Mary) 0'Connor, Lake Oswego; Mrs. Larry (Virginia) McMahon, Longview;
Washington and 16 grandchildren. Another son, Elliot Vernon (Lige) Robertson
preceded him in death here on January 16, 1966.
Also, surviving are three sisters, Mrs. J. D. (Sue) Miles; Mrs. Minnie Reed
and Mrs. Bertha Wright and one brother, R. C. Robertson, all of Louisville,
Mississippi.
