Albert Cleveland Robertson

Albert Cleveland (Cleve) Robertson passed away Saturday morning on May 19, 1990 at his home in Vernonia, Oregon after an extended illness.

Cleve Robertson was born October 25, 1913 in Fern Springs, Mississippi, the son of the late George Raymond Robertson and Virena "Viry" (Miles) Robertson. He was raised and received his education in Louisville and Reform, Mississippi. Upon completing his schooling he worked on the family farm and various other jobs in Louisville. He married the late Annie Orene Nance in Louisville.

He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He joined on October 12, 1942 at Portland, Oregon and served in the 92nd Signal Battalion until receiving his discharge on September 22, 1943 at Camp Polk, Louisiana. In 1943 he moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community where he had resided for the past forty-seven years. Mr. Robertson worked in the logging industry for several years as a gypo logger. He later owned and operated several restaurants in the Vernonia community, including the palace Cafe, Cozy Cafe and the Pal Shop. He then worked in the construction industry having owned and operated the C.C. & K. Construction Company. He was involved in both commercial and residential remodeling and construction.

Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by four brothers, Elliott V. "Lige" Robertson on January 1, 1966 at Portland, Oregon; Raymond G. Robertson on May 19, 1984 at Portland, Oregon; Shirley O. "S.O." Robertson on July 14, 1985 at Aloha, Oregon; and James Paul Robertson on March 31, 1974 at Castle Rock, Washington.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona J. "Ronnie" and Dick Martin of Portland, Oregon; Yolanda K. "Lonnie" and Brad Bilyeu of Aurora, Oregon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. "Charlie" and Susan Robertson of Beaverton, Oregon; and Albert "Kevin" and Sue Robertson Of Vernonia, Oregon; and five sisters, Virgie Strom of Portland, Oregon; Tharis King of Baker, Oregon; Mary Pratt Of Molalla, Oregon; Esther Ruth and Virginia Humphries both of Longview, Washington.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Michael Nanson serving with the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Francisco, California; Megan Nanson of Portland, Oregon; Chris Robertson and Sindi Robertson both of Beaverton, Oregon; Brian Robertson and Shawn Robertson both of Vernonia, Oregon; Callie Bilyeu, Nicholas Bilyeu and Lindsey Bilyeu all of Aurora, Oregon and several nieces and nephews.

Family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the American Cancer Society, Vernonia Unit, Mrs. Carolyn Keasey, Memorial Chairperson, 14426 Keasey Rd., Vernonia, Oregon, 97064, in his memory.
